What is it with people riding stuff straight on the spruit.

I just have to wonder when all The Spruit legends and keepers of the holy are going to get over themselves .

Wyatt, I know that you are not particularly fond of the so-called Spruit Rats, but surely you have better things to do than pass snide comments about them every time there is a Spruit discussion?

Does it suck so badly that this bunch of guys is passionate enough that they go and build interesting lines and features on the Spruit for their (and anyone else's) enjoyment?

If I was one of them I would also get peeved about non-contributors effing the lines up.

But as an outsider, I must say that your constant chirping does nothing but sow division in our community. Aren't you a shop owner (or something like it)? You should be setting an example that it's not okay to disrespect the efforts of others. you should be appreciative of anyone that puts themselves forward to contribute to the sport that pays YOUR salary.

Oh dear. How does a little spruit cause so much ***.

I blame the vagrants. they have no manners.

Yup. Spot on Wyatt.

Spruit Bashers have been shown up on many occasions as sycophants. It's cool to look down your nose at Spruit Rats.

Problem with that is; its actually a damn fine ride and can be made into a tough 60 km trek or an easy arvie stroll.

For some hipsters the Spruit is just too mainstream.

Oh my word, some legend took it personal.

It was bound to happen .

How did you get your panties in to such a knot ?

As for what pays this and that, why don't you rather go and thank your boss for the job you have rather than trying to dictate to others what you feel they should be doing.

Now that we have that out the way and your little windgat approach got dealt with best I can, let me explain.

The Spruit has been there and will be there for many years to come, it has been ridden by people on bicycles before most people even realised they would be doing mountain biking one day.

The legends I am referring to is very single person who feels that they are the gatekeepers and guardians of The Spruit, is that simple enough for you ?

Whatever happens along that Spruit is totally outside of anyone's control, it's not yours nor mine, it's for everybody who has access to it.

If people should be dictated to as to what lines they should be riding, then surely Ray Mcauley should be pretty livid about the baptisms that take place there on a Sunday.

Not interested getting into this bunfight but want to comment on the "spruit martials":

Sunday morning going underneath Jan Sumts bridge there were a few guys working on the trail - throwing some sand down and compacting in a bad section, also moving loose rocks away.

Pretty cool and decent of them since we are riding right through their lounge so to speak.

and now back to the action...

One of the so called "Spruit Rats" (Fairy) has made a deal with them and pays them to do work on the spruit.

hopefully everybody is more chilled after a holiday.  i didn't think noli's post was too personal or got his panties in a knot, i thought he made a fair comment that one shouldn't f-up what another person has done for "the love of the sport".  that's just good manners, not dictating how others should ride, what they should do or anything to do with the so called "spruit legends"

He just got a tad too little personal towards the end, enough to get me hot under the collar.

Not a fan of crowds and especially not the "I can grind it out on the flats at 45km/hr for ten hours straight" crowd (perhaps I'm just to weak/lazy/old), so the Spruit has brought me a fair amount of frustration, but you know what? It's damn handy for a quick cobweb-clearing midweek ride after work and there ARE a few fun sections to take advantage of, even on a 29er XC bike...

(like busting wheels and breaking helmets off a little table top  )

It's all about what you make of it for yourself without worrying about everyone else.

And it's REALLY quiet when the thunderstorms kick in!

So, big up to the Spruit fairy/fairies for tweaking and adding those interesting bits!
