My bike came with the Nobbly Nic,s and up front they still look new after 1000k,s ...the rear not so hot. So im also looking for something to last longer on rear.

Same on my Trance. Rear centre tread gone at 850kms and I am not too hard on the rear brakes. Replacing it with a Mountain King. Had them before on my 26er and they lasted a lot longer.

im also not hard on rear and only weigh 68kgs but do fair milage ..especially now during school hols....no schlepping kids to school so it,s commuting time. So want a faster rolling harder wearing rear tyre.  I suppose it will probably come down to who has best item on SALE

I have done this now, but my word, coming from a Nobby Nic that Ardent weighs a TON!

you should have fitted the ardent race up front, it's lighter than your Nic.

Can anyone explain the difference between Conti Trail King and Mountain King?

Isn't it tread pattern? Trail king is the old Rubber Queen. It is a more aggressive all mountain or all weather tyre compared to the mountain king. Which is not as aggressive as the trail king.

I think the Trail king is the MK's big brother...

I don't know just my 2c.

I run a 2.25 Ardent at the front and a 2.1 Crossmark at the back, also very happy.

Also on this combo and like it but will also go Nobby Nic when the front wears out but it never does for me in the front.

So , as I said before, the Trance came standard with Nobby Nic. Yesterday I put the front Nobby on the back and I got a new Mountain King (tubeless) for the front. The back Nobby was completely worn @ 900km... First ride was today and I'm very happy with my decision. The other Nobby should be worn in no time and I will replace it with a Mountain King too.

Those standard nobbys are ****. Truly ****. Soft sidewalls and not so sticky rubber. Yiu would have had a far better experience with the Snakeskin versions

schwalbe seems liek the perfect race tyre given the rather accelerated wear. but giddamn, i rode with 1.2 bar pressure with very little wobbly. what other tubeless tyre allows you to do that?

I ride the Ikon up front and the crossmark on the rear, I really like the crossmark but it is very heavy! I am feeling a bit Meh about the Ikon up front, they have good traction up front but I don't think I will recommend the Ikons up front when you like grip.

Look at riding a set of Schwalbe racing Ralph's.

They are strong tyres, will work well on and off tar and will last a lot longer than your Nobby Nics.

Ideal off road set: rocket ron up front and racing Ralph at the rear

I have the same setup on my 29er and it's a nice combo.

I don't ever go on the road... and I want a more aggressive tread on my Giant Trance. Suits the kind of riding I do better.
