I have found a lot of tension and aggro "manne" out on the trails of late. I now ride early to avoid them. I don't need some noob telling me I am going to get F'ed up just because I ask him politely not to block the single track by standing across it while chatting to his mates. I am small so I guess I am in easy target. It's frustrating.

True Lefty: But he got verbal signage, and then lost his marbles. How is any non-verbal static sign going to influence his mentality? As it is, the vast majority of riders actually dont ride up. Its exactly this type of cretin that will cause an accident, cos you know, they are never wrong yadah yadah..

Verbal signage..???

{from his perspective} On whose authority?

How does he know any of the Tokai MTB committee from a bar of soap itsnot like they ride with noddy badges proclaiming "Mandated Committe Member" or "SANParks Law enforcement".

Hence perspective and calm. Him loosing is cool is no excuse for escalation.

Just a thought

that is exactly why we fail at self-control and self-restraint, requiring more laws and figures of authority to police said rules, resulting in the inevitable nanny-state. He was presented with a reasonable argument upon which to reconsider his actions. But instead he responded with verbal abuse. This is typical of someone who doesn't give 2sh1ts either way.

I'll say it again: this cretin wont care even if there are signs.

Personally, I have wondered about the signs and the way they get destroyed by the baboons. They are destructive, I know, but can it really be possible that they are the only ones responsible? Or are there perhaps riders that don't like what they are confronted with and pull the signs up and toss them into the bushes? I wouldn't put it beyond some of the characters I have encountered. (Speculation, as I have no proof and haven't done a CSI on this.)

If I remember correctly there were cameras put up that were even taken out.

I think you are on the right track.Baboons are clever and I love them...naughty buggers...but there is another force at work here

I've brought this up with Deon before and he reckons he's found signs discarded in the middle of nowhere. I.e. Carried there by a baboon. And no one would know better than Deon when it comes to stuff moving around on that mountain.

Signs can be discarded in any way to make it appear to be baboons. They're not to difficult to mimick apparently.

M. It wouldn't surprise me.

On that. I was pushing up the trail one day and one of the little signs had been pulled out of it's housing. I was busy putting it back in when someone rode past. He could easily have thought I was pulling it out. Haha.

The only signs the 2 legged baboons don't like are the ones that say "don't ride here". Those I've pulled out bushes and ravines.

As for the 4 legged relatives, the signs that get carried off to roosting spots have pretty colours that are such a distraction, even the riot cages from '05 could not stand in their way. I'll take a pic of the cage Omega man is talking about. It's been bent up from the corner, nothing the 2 legged breed could accomplish without some kind of prying tool.

This pic below is oddly the no entry sign in question at the exit of DH2, it lasted a total of 5 minutes when it was first installed..

Man, the bigger burning question I have, how much of a "downhill run" is it really if it can be ridden up, especially by an old man ?

Not really big features. More that it's littered with rock, roots and such, but is dedicated to a single direction. In terms of technicality for DH levels, it's not really high or gnarly but it can catch you off guard and is good for training on. At most it would br considered a blue trail, IMO.

Thus me asking, and don't take me wrong here and think I am being sarcastic, but if it's not a proper downhill run and it can be ridden up by almost anyone, then why the one-way traffic approach ,who decided that it should be ?
