Hi all.

Whenever I train hard or very consistent at high intensity I get restless legs at night.

I have had it for years. I use Pexola.

What other advice can you give to prevent it and then cure or control it.

I ran out of meds and cant find anywhere. Dischem promised to call me the minute they have sourced it or an alternative. In the meanwhile im enduring hell.

The potato in bed trick is a sick joke. Does not work, apparently it works for bush people but not me.

Please help. I cant sleep at night.

Common problem, just a little way your muscles telling you that they have had a rough day at the office.

Jokes aside I just live with it, but only really have it after really tough races or 7hr hard training rides. Then my legs have a mind of there own and I can see individual muscles randomly contact and release and do this weard ripple in a pond affect for hours after.

It is rather annoying. One cant function normally. Im very tired. Get in bed and I cant sleep because the old legs are having a freaking party of their own. No sangomas with any advice?

Hi there. It is my opinion and advice that you might want to try a Calcium and Magnesium supplement. I buy a supplement from Clicks (Clicks Healthbasics) called calcium complete and when my body feels depleted, usually after a hard day/ride, I take two in the evening after my meal before I go to sleep and find it helps to settle my body and legs.

I am not an expert but I do think there is some merit to the cold/ice water thing. One of the symptoms I have after hard rides and in bed at night is that my legs feel hot and restless even if they are cool to the touch. Therefore, maybe some time in a cool/ice water bath would help bring down the core temperature of the legs??? Not sure though, just thinking out aloud...

Anyway, perhaps try both suggestions and see if either work? Hope you come right as I know that lying in bed at night unable to sleep can be very frustrating! Ciao.

This. I now take magnesium daily. I even used to have this during the day randomly while sitting... Drove my wife crazy. After about a week of magnesium, the problem is gone.

I find that by stretching my body to the point where it starts to warm up helps. I have a routine where I stretch and activate all my muscles to get the blood flowing. This definitely helps for me. I might even have to repeat the procedure somewhere in the middle of the night if I wake up and can't sleep again.

Try it - might just work for you.
