Justone sells a spray-on one, UV50 and works a charm. Just cover your eyes when you spray your face (fingers work fine) and be careful not to wipe that stuff into your eyes - burns like a mother in law's tongue. I'm a bit of a ginger so normally burn easily, but with this stuff 5hr rides are no probs. Also works great in water.

I dont think there is a straight answer to your question.

I would recommend you re-apply atleast every two hours if possible.

I have used many and found that if I dont re-aplly I get burned. Especially where I sweat more.

i swear by the island tribe stick - battle to get it off in the shower even with soap!

I will look for it. I had this stick thing at one stage. It had an SPF of 80 or something and damn that stuff lasted. However, I did not like it because it made me look like a spook with a white face. It sat like hell but made as white as heaven... :)

This stuff really works for me, have not got burnt when I use it playing golf, cycling, skii'ng, and holidays in Mauritius. I use the spf 30 and just reapply after swimming etc. It absorbs into your skin easily and does not leave a pale face barrier cream effect afterwards.

There is also a spf 50 but I've never found the need to use it when I use the spf 30 one

Techniblock works for me. Lasts all day including swims but does not feel too greasy on skin and does not attract insects. Just dont spray it directly on your face.....spray hand then wipe on.

Also take off your sunglasses and cover them up before applying. Overspray smears the lenses something horrible and nothing short of dishwash liquid gets it off.

The Nivea stuff and many others give me a skin rash so I guess each person has to find what works for them.

What works for me is applying it at least 30 minutes before hand, otherwise I tend to start sweating and then the stuff gets into my eyes! I use SPF 40 or 50, depending on costs.

Gets my vote aswell. Best I have ever used.

The Nivea SPF50+ spray and cream is probably the best I've ever used.

However, I found that when using it on my arms, although I never get sunburn, my arms are tanned a shade darker after every long ride. Not what I want to happen.

Begrudgingly bought a pair of arm protectors. I don't like wearing them, but like skin cancer even less.

I use the nivea because its only sunscreen i have found that doesn't burn my eyes with fury when i sweat. But i have not found one that stops be from getting some redness from long day on bike. Nivea has been best for that so far and if applied correctly ( applied and left  bit before riding ) I only darken my tan a bit. I think ill try the island tribe stick now and keep eye on the thread for future input :)

one thing I do know is that in a country like South Africa..the cost of sunblock should be as low as possible for all to apply in mid summer...but at prices that range from R100 to R500 for 100ml or 200ml that is not the case

I remember growing up in the 70's and 80's seeing ladies lathered in baby oil and tin foil reflectors....considering what we know now...the mind boggles that this was ever the case!
