'Dale Posted January 12, 2015 Posted January 12, 2015 I like the Cannondale Synapse. Is that more of a normal roadbike? Or can you put some fat tyre on it?Used for cobbled races mostlyStronger frameSome suspension featuresLonger wheelbase for stability

PeterM Posted February 6, 2015 Posted February 6, 2015 I am also keen on the Spez Diverge; might get one at the end of March. Keen to use it as a run-about bike and for Audax rides after putting road tyres on it (28c Conti 4Seasons).
Pure Savage Posted January 14, 2016 Posted January 14, 2016 Spotted the Spez Cruz in Freewheel cyclology the other day, its the S works model only though, so was rather ridiculous. Still think its worth holding out for hyrdaulic brakes before breaking the bank.
Underachiever Posted January 14, 2016 Posted January 14, 2016 Have the Niner RLT and training on Karoo roads and tar the entire December. Bike can handle some rough stuff and will do even better if you put on 40mm tyres vs the std 35mm. With do EVEN better with 29er 1.8 MTB tyres. 35mm tyres more than ok for smooth gravel. Currugates - eish!!! Need bigger volume tyres For the road, increased the pressure to 4-5 bar and Oh and they run tubeless of course.
L.T.G Posted January 14, 2016 Posted January 14, 2016 I've got an A1, awesome bike... love it, had it since Sep'14. Only thing I'd want to change are the brakes to hydraulic. But for the price, great value imo!
Skrop Posted January 14, 2016 Posted January 14, 2016 I've got a Spez Crux E5 (the Alu frame, carbon fork model) and it's the coolest bike I own. I bought it because I was told by the boss that I could only have two bikes. This solved the problem of having a road bike, MTB and classic single speed. The trick is to have two wheelsets so you can swap out easily depending on your needs. It's a perfect bike for riding to the Spruit, smashing a few KM and then riding home on the pavements of Jozi. I'll probably upgrade sometime this year to a Cotic Escapade for the full "steel is real" experience.
Spoke101 Posted January 14, 2016 Posted January 14, 2016 Good mate has one and last week did a 3 day 670km road/gravel trip on his. He has had it for over a year and loves it to death. Let me know if you want him number so you can have a chat.
nonky Posted January 14, 2016 Posted January 14, 2016 My recently stolen gravel grinder...would LOVE a Diverge to replace her.We rode all over the Western Cape this holiday, including a loooooooong gravel stretch from Gouda to Moorreesburg and then from Moorreesburg to Darling.

Troi Sport Posted January 16, 2016 Posted January 16, 2016 More fun than a Road bike and a MTB together More options too
Baracuda Posted January 16, 2016 Posted January 16, 2016 Just a question of interest: Why would one get a gravel bike over a good 29er hard tail?I recently bought a second-hand Sliverback Sola 1 for commuting from Kenilworth to town over road and jeep track - a 11kg 29er hardtail, with light wheels and I have put grippy road / cyclocross tires on it.It is light, has the gearing, has a front fork for corrugations etc and is very quick on road - not as quick as a road bike, but I am sure as quick as a gravel bike.So why a gravel bike?Just asking.
