As a cyclist, I pray for the day that cyclists consider their frailty on the road and that in a collision, they're always on the losing end. The trouble is that so many of us think that a strip of tar calls for TdF wannabe-ness... TdF has CLOSED ROADS... and STILL riders get KO'd

But I think the solution is simple... if you can go the same speed as a car, ride where the car drives, if not, keep as far left as possible and it's the car's responsibility to pass safely. Failing that, someone will find out that their sternum is quite a bit softer than a bumper.

I drive and ride (less these days) Chappies and Victoria often and cyclists behavior at times is mind-numbing. Wearing a helmet isn't the end of taking responsibility for our safety...

Iffy to comment on this, they are not exactly riding side by side. In this photo the one rider is behind the other but more away from the side of the road. But yes if they were like this would a friendly hoot not have gotten their attention?

Maybe the rider behind was moeg and just hanging on and not really thinking?

If I were that rider a friendly hoot would have got me back in position and a sorry wave from me.

I agree, it would have worked for me as well, but many cyclist are not as polite and self behaved.

I too can not confirm or deny that but if it where true, How would they police it? Much the same as how do they police the new 1M gap rule? I'm from JNB so am not lucky enough to have that rule but I'm just wondering is that law a success down there? And what is the punishment?

I have no idea. We are usually 4 riders that keep in line. I don't think it is being policed, and I have experience that the 1,5 m rule is not working.

Even though there's a 20kph speed limit I would have expected them to be riding single file.

If we hooted we would have got the finger and we had ladies and kidds in the vehicle...so just stayed behind them until they decided to pull over. We were in no hurry, but an inconsiderate motorist might have had a different approach

Why the hnag up on single file? Its a dumb law designed by weak politicians to appease lawless motorists. Its archaic

I thought that we should abide by the Law at all times  I know we live in a lawless society, but if we all do what we want we might as well press the self destruct button :whistling: Anyway living a life of integrity is a personal choice which I made, but then again others may have a different outlook on things ;)
