Novice, bike setup mistakes

I often comment on setup issues, especially saddle height. What seems to work well is something like "aren't your knees hurting with the saddle set like that?"

Nine times out of ten the rider will ask you what you mean, which opens the door for a quick explanation.

For the one out of ten who tells you to F off, just leave him to injure himself, he'll learn soon enough.

This last weekend I rode the 70km Lido fast one and towards the end of the ride where we caught the 40km bunch there were more than 5 people who we passed, who's seat height or handle bar position was so bad they actually battled to ride the bike. there was even 1 guy in the front of the 40 batch who looked like he was riding a BMX his seat was so low.

Its worrying that people give up the sport due to discomfort to quickly. Mostly due to bad bike Sizing or setup.

If you see a person riding who's setup is very obviously wrong and hampering there riding ability / riding pleasure.

Is it polite to offer some assistance in adjusting there bike to make it fit better?

Dont listen to what OTHERS think YOU should do. I wish someone would just give me advice on why they think my seatpost keeps sliding down in spite of everything I try -_-

I usually give my advise. Most new cyclists seem to think their feet must touch the floor when sitting in the saddle, so they adjust the saddle height that the bike shop did for them.

What often gets me laughing is the amount of people who put their helmets on backwards. I normally correct them too.

had that problem before. Took off quick release and put a stainless bolt and nyloc nut through the bracket and problem solved

Cut a coke can as a shim and wrap it around your seatpost and refit, worth a try and cheap as chips........or coke!

A few months ago I gave a spot of advice on how to ride hills if you've reached the end of your tether to one of the occasional lady riders in our Saturday group..... (well, she did seem to be suffering).

She (and her two lady mates) has given me the cold shoulder ever since
