Happy That I have been using the Vitality Option FOr some time so my Monthly fees at Virgin is R0-00. As long as I visit the 36 times in 12 month rolling period.

In the summer I wiil be outside tapping away on my pedals but in Winter time and some specific training session I will be on the spinning/Wattbikes in the Gym.

Just checked , 58 times last 12 months , so still free for now.

That all changed at sometime. You should be getting charged. I have been doing the vitality thing for 12 years now i think and also paid nothing but now its R 100

If you are getting away with nothing then great.

yes, that would be the Premier Rate access fee. For a single gym, it was always free on the old one. As soon as you elected for the premier membership (all gyms except classic) it was an extra amount per month.

Correct. Certain periods of the year I upgrade to premier, then there is a R100 few. But I just change in the periods I do not travel.

I use the liberty own your life rewards and have received all my gym fees back except for December as I was not in the country. It is a nice incentive to get fit and not pay for it

DO NOT go onto liberty.

I have to go 15 times a month in order to get my gym for free. That is a bit crazy. Can't wait to move over to discovery.

Busy killing myself gyming so much!!!

I'm not on Discovery medical aid (on my wife's company medical aid) and would only like a gym for the swimming in the heated pool. But signing up for a membership where I have access to a lot of things I don't want and will not use, isn't worth it for me. Anybody heard of a swim-only type plan somewhere in Gauteng?

They took a LOT of money from me.....

I signed a long term contract and the franchise folded a few weeks after I signed and payed.

I have heard, from the owner of a big gym, that the guys who owned Sharper Image re-opened as the franchise holders of Planet Fitness.

Public swimming pool in the middle of a Gauteng winter? I don't think so.

Virgin active....where people go to socialise

The other day we decided to go an have an overpriced slush puppy after our morning run at the virgin gym as we use it as our base. As I wasn't a member I had to get a temp entry which almost involved a DNA sample.....so I ask the bloke "do i need to do this eveytime I want to come have a slush puppy or coffee?" to which he responds "no, we have you details you just pay R120 entrance fee next time"...no more slush puppies for me

unless you want to look buff and/or pick up girls...i really dont see the point of gyms

I used to enjoy VA, in my opinion it was great value, especially through Vitality.

I was a member of the old Health and Racquet and resigned a 2 year membership paid up front about 3 months before they closed down and VA took over, I think VA gave me a month's credit in lieu, but thats life I guess and VA was infinitely better so I had no real issues.

I think one needs to look at the entire gym package, not just using the weight room or the spinning bikes, theres much more on offer, swimming, squash at some gyms, sauna, steam room, yoga, Pilates etc, and for many, especially woman, the elderly or the very young its a safe, comfortable and pleasant environment to exercise.

The VA group in SA is world class believe me and for 300 odd bucks (or less) on Vitality I think its great value.

true...but then support local if you can instead of syphoning money to some multi millionaire

our local gym up the road has all those facilities for also less than R300 without the need for vitality or multiply...sure - there aren't 20 treadmills and 50 spinning bikes but you get my point
