(Deon) Posted February 8, 2015 Posted February 8, 2015 Inspiration and good support shown by the locals yesterday. Work on Mamba started last week with a Sanparks EPWP team of 11 spending 5 days learning mountain bike trail req.'s. The goal for the week was to shore up the trail with rock and add some long-lasting water management. Incredible watching these guys work, they are trained in hiking trail maintenance and it certainly shows. They'll be back in March for another 5 days. The volunteers were able to use the base work prepared by EPWP to add some finishing touches.. and really well finished at that! Support came in the form of funds from donors to pay for labour and fuel and the volunteers provided the sweat (not much blood for a change). The day was HOT, and fun!! Water courtesy JoJo tanks (1000l), vehicle support by William Simpson and that magic Laterite by PPA. Refreshments just appeared half way through the day, thanks Mark Moir! I tried assisting with collection of some rocks and eventually gave up turning to the Nissan to do the hard labour. I clearly don't have the strength of some of these women. Everyone showing a good vibe too. If all goes well, the schedule on mountain bike trails will be set and we will hopefully have their assistance every month, for the whole month, for two years! This has been long in the making, so hold thumbs! Working for Coast, Fundiswa's team.
