The cyclist that was hit is my twin sister. She is all right, sort of. No concussion, spinal or neck injuries. Nothing broken. Bum is very, very sore to the point that she can't walk. Ugly lacerations on the back of her left thigh, had to get lots of stitches, big hole on the side of the knee, also fixed with stitches. Heavily bruised left elbow and her ride shoulder has some shallow lacerations. Back is 100%. The bike will be taken to the LBS for 'n check up, the rear wheel is moer toe as well as her helmet.

A big thank you to everybody who stopped to help. A very big thank you to the marshalls who took pictures of the car and got all the info we needed.

Good to hear that your sister is going to be ok

Witnessed that accident on the 85km mark whilst changing a puncture. A silver Toyota Tazz decided it wasn't going to move out the way for a female cyclist and hit her square from behind. Both bike and cyclist flew through the air, while the cyclist riding behind her saw the whole thing - shame, he even walked into the veld and collaped because he felt sick.

The Tazz on the other hand just came to a slow stop, and the black female driver opened the door and walked back to the scene without any rush, taking her time, noticing the scenary, probably humming a tune, while the rest of her friends/family decided to stay in the car.

The two bike marshalls who initially offered me assistance, quickly did a u-turn and flew down to the scene - in a blink of an eye the lane was closed off ande they were assisting her.

I'm not too sure what her injuries were, but she came down hard. I hope she survived and all is well.

What time was that more or less?

SilverRider, wasn't that your sister?

EDIT: You beat me to it ;) I'm very glad that she is okay! She sure is a tough little thing!

Yip! She told me yesterday evening how great her fellow cyclist are. I have to admit it is not the type of call you want to receive after you have finished your race, chilling at the finish and waiting for the rest of the family to arrive.

All I can say is thank goodness for helmets!!! Who cares if the helmet is moer toe (it saved her head), I'll buy her a new one if the driver doesn't cough up.

The helmet is still under warranty, we bought it in May 2014. Thanks for the offer, will let you know how things go.

We rode a casual ride down to the Vaal, and had to share the route with the R4S guys for about 10km.

This just made me so grateful that I do not have to deal with EL/FL groups anymore (those were the shirts I saw around me)

Just in that 10km, there were 3 incident of guys riding in the right (on coming traffic) lane and then when a car approached, they would cut straight back into their group, causing people to run off the road on both sides as their group ballooned around the sudden breaking.

On these fast flat races, you will ride SO much faster if everybody just stays calm and ride 2 abreast. Few attacks will stay away on routes like this, especially if its in the first 20km and windy. Stay calm, ride calmly and cohesively you will be faster!

Wow some scary reports from yesterday. I hope all involved heal up quickly. It was my first JHB road race, did a 3.36 and of course got dropped by DL around 26km after a near miss accident in the group. Was quite hard going not sure if I have not adjusted to the altitude after 2 weeks in JHB. Apparently this race is a good indication of one's Argus time?

Yip, Bar any mechanical or other outside issues your R4S time and Argus time should be very close. Incident free race for me has always been 2-5min difference

Jip, I agree. I was in the EL bunch and I really don’t understand why some riders insist on riding on the right of the white line. Even after the organisers asked not to. There were a couple of time were the people had to dab the brakes in the group due to the okes just pushing back into the bunch when a car approached. You can imagine how nervous the group was after a couple of times doing 40 to 50 km/h and then hitting the brakes. One dude did yell out to them not to go over the line but these riders just don’t give a damn. Very inconsiderate.

Some guys really ride like chops. I enjoyed my ride from CL. Got dropped at about 90km then rode in with some nice guys to finish 3.11

Very true. 2 guys in Edenglen kit really seemed to be looking for trouble the whole time at the front of the CL bunch. Hung back and finished in a chase bunch in 3:09. Enjoyed!

Had a decent ride in AL yesterday, that Heidelberg hill was tough though. From there it was a hard slog in the cross winds to the finish and those two guys managed to sneak away and stay away but at least I managed to finish safely with the rest of the bunch.

A couple of the ladies caught a free ride back to their bunch

I didn't know about the crash in AL. I remember seeing MooToo and the Edenglen crew quite a bit in the first half of the race so I was wondering where they disappeared to. Get well soon MooToo.

SilverRider, hope your sister heals up quickly, that must have been quite a scare.

Super rugby started , I indulged toooo much "Grapes" on Saturday eve while enjoying the bulls loss at loftus

Managed to wake up and be at the start in time for my VA start

Managed to stay with VA till the steps where the body didn't have any reserves to keep the tempo going , Limped home to a 3:08 . . . 3rd last in my group . . .

Acc200 only worked up to 58km in . . .

PS - Thank you for the tandam ( Vodacom  KIT ) sharing their back wheel !

Thanks for the good wishes. My aunt who also did the race came from behind and saw my sister and the ambulance. She then phoned me telling me that there was an accident. At least I could hear my sister's voice in the background, which meant she was fine, well sort of. I think my aunt got the biggest scare except maybe for the newbie who rode with my sister. She says he was crying and terrified. I hope he made it to the end and is fine today.
