Low Mileage

My GF / wife's bike

Never Taken Offroad

Stored inside house always

World Championship Winner

Only used for occasional rides on 'Spruit

Used for one race only (usually, this means for the Epic)

No need for any of this salesman mumbo jumbo, just call it an S-Works in the advert, will sell immediately!

Those in the business turn over bikes, wheels ,parts etc like it's no ones business

I sold a Colnago frame for my son on here that hardly had any Kay's on it for a bargain

Because he was sponsored and got a new BMC

Different sport  - same scenario...

As a child we used to fish every weekend... and sometimes during the week after school.

Many years later I wanted to start again and kitted myself out with decent stuff. (XTR reels etc)

I used it once and put it in my shed.

I still love the idea of going  out to fish but it is not so easy to find a safe venue around Gauteng.

At this stage I do not want to sell the kit but it is taking up space ......... who knows maybe you will see it in the classifieds in a year or two.

This is true for every sport. People buy stuff with good intentions but life happens and they may eventually may end up selling.

I bought a Moser last week from a fellow hubber. This steel Italian classic from the 80s does not look like it even did 100km in its life. I would love to know the history of the bike but it was a great find.

On the other scale of things you do get adverts that may not be accurate to you.

People's expectations differ. Something that is acceptable to you may not be acceptable to the next person.

We recently searched for a bike for my Other Half. We shortlisted 4 bikes that were all advertised as "Almost New"

- The first was a carbon Trek in Kempton Park. This bike clearly had a hard life as the frame had severe cracks in multiple places

- the second belonged to a lady who advertised that the bike only did 2 races. On closer inspection it turned out that the bike probably did 2 Cape Epics for her statement to be correct.

- The third bike belonged to a High School Scholar who claimed the bike did no more than 150km. The frame was still good but the drivetrain was absolutely buggered. I saw the potential and made his dad a realistic offer which included a breakdown of all the part which had to be replaced. The father was a bit abusive and said that I was taking them for a ride as the bike was still new.

We flew to Cape Town to collect the real "As good as new bike". This Merida is indistinguishable from a new bike although is is a few years old.

There are true "ANC" Almost New Condition items on the market but there are also lemons. If you do not know the difference take somebody that knowns with or take the bike to a shop for an inspection.

Personally I love looking at bikes and do not mind the inconvenience caused by "false" advertisers.

Happy Shopping!!!

'AS NEW'.............maybe not!

Also looked at my (18 month but not so brand new) bike a few days ago.  With 11 000km on the clock one can see the scuff marks, small scratches ,worn grips and even the saddles paint is sat off.  And wondered how I am ever going to pass this off as " almost never been ridden"

At least I had lots of fun and am not planning to sell the bike soon.  Compulsory upgrades or replacements might be in the near future. :(

.. my wife travels a lot for work and I have serious medical issues that keep me off the bike. Because of this her Merida (see above) has not done more that 100km. All around our block and all on tar. If she decides to sell it will probably still be in an Almost New Condition...

I recently put my steed up for sale on the hub. Got it in September 2013. Got injured in January 2014. Never ridden it since. Got hip surgery January 2015. So hence my bike was spotless and not ridden much. Decided to keep it in the end since it is hardly used....
