Li Mu Bai Posted February 7, 2015 Posted February 7, 2015 Just a heads up to anyone thinking of venturing to Northern Farms.Whilst guards are posted all over inside the farm due to the hijacking there a few weeks ago, the entrance area just isnt safe anymore.This morning after a good ride, I left around 9:15, and as I turned left onto the roadworks road towards midrand and started to pass the brand new informal settlement which has mushroomed there, my rear window was shattered completely by a thrown rock. This is now the second similar incident after my riding partner had his front windshield cracked with a thrown rock a few weeks ago. I am not sure if this is a new way of getting motorists to stop so that they can hijack your vehicle, but I stopped 100m after hearing the dull thud that smashed my window, and looked back briefly.Just several blank faces returning my scrutiny, sad really that the community there lets this crap happen. Despite all the effort NFUG is putting into the farm to develop routes and make the riding worthwhile, I'm done with that place. Its just not a safe place to be anymore.

johannrissik Posted February 8, 2015 Posted February 8, 2015 Glad you're unhurt.The term "Riding Shotgun" appeals to me as a very rapid solution...the rock thrower would have been perfectly in range...just sayin'. It's apparently a very effective way of appealing to a rock thrower's better sense of value.

Bonus Posted February 8, 2015 Posted February 8, 2015 Convoys into and away from NF soon? They might even have to move the MTB entrance down to where we used to buy tickets at the horse riding center - SA Trails.
