Extremely tough racing in the mixed category this year and the times were much faster than on previous years (granted there are always minor route changes). Weather could not have been better and the trails were pure heaven. Other than the affordability factor, I cannot think of any room for improvement on this amazing event. Kudo's to W2W team and their very generous sponsors.

Hey Rapunzel, i also raced mixed. Was great fun!

Have to agree, this is one awesome event. Day 2 was just absolutely the most fun i ever had on a MTB.

thought day 2 was more hype than "fun"

Day 1 ST and the ST on day 3 was for me more "fun"

I absolutely thought the day 1 and 3 singletracks sections was more fun but also more hard work.

Day 2 was fun but you really needed a open track in front of you. Fortunately I created enough space on Paul Cluver hanging bridges, switchbacks , and berms to really let go of the brakes.

The Hermanus Trails of Day 3 was superb superb singletrack riding. A few nice technical climbs in there and again more berms this time made of wood. Just simply awesome and other riders were being co-operative to your need to enjoy yourself at maximum speed while not compromising they ability to stay upright was far far better than any previous event.

really have to thank my fellow riders. Everyone bar a few behaved really unselfishly. I didn't have to return the favour too often but given the chance to let someone faster through too go and enjoy those berms,....I'd dive out of the way and watch. :)

anyone else running 780mm + bars .... it got very very interesting at some sections of ST with the narrow gaps between trees at speed.....kromko (spelling) pallets alley also got narrower and narrower ..... ride partner was laughing behind me watching it closing in and asked if I was going to make it through.

chatted to another rider on 800mm bars one evening and he had the same anxiety.

Day 2 was absolutely awful for me, I suffered the whole day and wished with every pedal stroke that I was back in my tent! Had some pansy boys in Pick n Pay kit in front of me walking on the downhill with loose stones. They didnt reply when I asked them where in Cape Town the princesses rode? I wonder why...

And then on day 3 dropping into Hemel en Aarde just across the dam wall, another sweetie pie guy unclipping his one foot constantly. And then we must read articles about how girls need more confidence to ride? grrr.

Any other females pissed off by the Vera Adrian pictures on the front of the MTB magazine we were given? Ridiculous sexist pictures of her better suited to Sports Illustrated Swimwear edition. Show me a woman who cycles with her jersey zipped down. Sexist!!!!

Ok, so which sections of the trail is open all year round?
1. Lourensford
2. A2Z

3. Oak Valley

4. Paul Cluver / Thandi (a lekker loop combined with Oak Valley)

5. Ou Pas

6. Hemel en Aarde

Day 2 is pretty much available all year round. Maybe this is the reason some say that there are less wow! on day 2 than the others.

Anyone know of any other sections that are open to the public?

That section just before WP2 on day 1 with the berms close to that private estate looked like fun, the section just past Wildekrans was also a nice fun flowing stretch.

RED FONT: Must have been the JHB riders.

BLUE FONT: I will keep a keen eye out and report back. The pics taken though were exceptionally cheesy artistically I would say.

GREEN FONT: I ride with some ladies that will leave many a guy crying in the dirt behind them!

Unlike this gentle man I don't propose to have an answer. All I can offer is that I found day1 and day 3 singletrack to be more challenging than Day2. I don't ride in Grabouw often, in fact I'm a bloody roadie so my MTB only sees the dirt a few times a year.

I still prefer lycra and ride with 680mm bars and a helmet without a peak.

Day2 single track sections were either to easy or too short and linked together with those boring long fire roads.

I dunno maybe the real mountain bikers founds Day 2 to be more challenging

It appears that the Wildekrans section is opening to the public on 14 November. I'm so chuffed with another great piece of trail opening to the public. It's another reason W2W has surpassed Sani2C imo. Building trails that are being used all year around does much more for the property owners than keeping it exclusively for the race.
