Jokerman Posted September 19, 2006 Share Hmmmmmmmm, I know this topic was very heated yesterday and I think we all know that even though the orginizers are denying the fact that it was a total stuff up.....due to bad planning or the lack their off. I'd like to poll and see who will be doing it next year in light of this years "fantastic" event ????
Thyolo Posted September 19, 2006 Share Now I know what to expect I would give it another go as the route is v challenging.Perhaps they shouldn't bill it as Jo'Burg's biggest this or that next year. Nuking the Sunday shopping traffic would also help.
Guest Michelle Posted September 19, 2006 Share I'm glad I turned around on Sunday & with everything I've heard I won't be entering next year...
Jokerman Posted September 19, 2006 Share I know the course is challenging, just think they must change the orginizers that actaully know what is envolved in orginizing such a event...i.e. Marshalls that actaully know they are suppose to stop trafficLeading vehicles that actaully know the routeRoad closure
scotty Posted September 19, 2006 Share I'll do it as i think the orgs will have learned a hard lesson. Last year it was better planned than the Monte, this year it sounds as if they switched around.
Team SL Posted September 19, 2006 Share Will agree that it is challenging route, Marshalls must be upped, road closure will be difficult and i think the race finnish can be on the main road with cylists going down the slipway to collect medal and drink. Wheelsuck Posted September 19, 2006 Share I have never been so the m@#r in at a race. I emailed the organisers and got a very detailed reply-I told them to post a reply as they have a lot to explain.
IanC Posted September 19, 2006 Share Well next year hopefully the roadworks will be completed. That will help a lot. I also think that the finish should be changed, as that three turns inside the parking area is not conductive for a spectacular sprint to the finish. If they keep the finis as it was last year they should consider to stop the funriders to enter the parking area when the leaders in the diferent categories approach the finish. The last is the marshalling that must improve and all the marshalls and lead vehicles should know the exact route. dirtrider Posted September 19, 2006 Share IanC I understand what you are saying but then rather have something seperate for Elite riders . I only stop for Beer and most of my mates feel the same . If you wanna pass it is fine but I am not gonna stop to make that happen .

If you wanna pass it is fine but I am not gonna stop to make that happen . 100% right DR - as I have been saying in the other posts - why all the molly coddeling of a few elites when the masses are inconvenienced and treated poorly. Everybody, who paid an entry, has a right to ride and not be stopped for a few individuals. Pass by all means, but dont expect favours.
IanC Posted September 19, 2006 Share I don't only talk about the elites. Even the A-bunch finishing with some of the shorter distance riders finishing as well. Especially on a finish like the D2D. If you take that first turn into the gate after that little down hill at sy 45km/h and a funrider is in the middle of the road at 15km/h it might be a painfull meeting. dirtrider Posted September 19, 2006 Share I had these fast blokes come flying past me once or twice on a road race and YES it is bloody scary and very dangerous . But the rule of the road is keep left pass right and that should also be the rule while racing . unfortunately in a race 99% actually do race (even right at the back) and it also happens that they do a sprint (much slower ) to the finish line with their beer drinking buddies !! A fun rider just pulled in front of me without looking back, needless to say i have a bald spot on my rear wheel and she probably got the fright of her life when i hit her back wheel, least i stayed up and i was only in D
Man with no name Posted September 19, 2006 Share I was stopped by one of the kind gentlemen from the Metro Police on the HP section on the way back, diplomatically conveying to me that "the race is over". With more or less 75% of the field still behind me, I had a hard time figuring out his statement, replying that I think he may be mistaken in his presumption deducted from his arbitrary ability to count participants in motion while performing his stated duty of regulating other vehicles during the event. Or not. Man with no name2006-09-19 05:10:
Dit is jou eie skuld as jy verkeerd draai. Buitendien as jy so hot is kom re?l dit.
