I was just wondering what makes the rest of you get out of bed in the mornings?

What gives you the motivation to get out on the road?

I seriously battle during the week. I debated with myself this morning standing there staring out of the window looking at the wind blowing the trees, trying to justify to myself that I don't need to get out of bed and go ride!

After much discussion with the voices in my head I eventually got out there and did hill repeats, feels good that I got out there instead of just getting back into bed and "not" going back to sleep.

I've downloaded motivation videos to try and help, trying to be positive for the rides that I have ahead and setting goals for those races but it seems as though it's still not enough.

I guess the fact that I ride alone during the week doesn't help neither. No one to let down or disappoint if I don't show up, other than myself.

Any suggestions or some advice would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Thanks,

get a partner who makes you bleed and does not accept

*its raining

*rough night

*tired legs

*wife says no

get someone who breaks down the door till you open it, and drags your lazy butt out the door

I get up to go spin downstairs...

so I can't blame the weather.

I would love to go outside and really cycle, so I am actually jealous.

But what motivates me is to know that if I train my day will be great.

If I do not train I am usually tired during the day and after a couple of days of not training I get very irritated..

I go through these stages. Some weeks nothing can hold me back and I can cycle just about everyday of the and then other days I just battle.

I've done the, take a week or 2 off training. All that does is make it worse as my eating habits go for a ball and I feel terrible when I get back into it so I prefer to just to a 2 day a week rest.

Used to have a training partner but we only got together on the weekends. He is much stronger than me and also trains for Triathlons, he has World Champs ahead of him in August this year so no real time for training with me.

Couldn't agree more about the feeling tired during the day if I don't train.

It's just that initial getting out of bed to go cycle.

Waking up is never the problem, it's just lagging this a$$ out of bed.

Thanks,

I struggled too with getting up in the mornings and my training suffered badly. I also tried many things, to the point of basically sleeping in my cycling kit.

After I admitted to myself that I will NEVER be a morning trainer, I shifted things/schedules and now go riding in the afternoons/evenings. MUCH easier.

Point is dont stress, if you really want to do something you can make a plan. Remember if it was easy, everybody would be training everyday :)

I've got two guys who I ride with.  For us to all bail would be really difficult, and if even one of us is up for a ride the others get guilt-ed into going too.

My alarm went off at 03h45 this morning after I went to bed late last night - I really just wanted to roll over and go back to sleep, but I knew that the guys would be out there waiting for me, so I went.

Best motivation ever.  Going solo is hard.

In my much younger years I struggled to get up early before work to go train, the toughest part for sure is the get up out of bed and to the door! 1 trick I learnt from some old timers was to put an alarm clock (OK so I guess these days it would be your cellphone with an alarm) in such a place in your room that you have to get up to go and switch it off or press snooze. If that doesn't work well then you don't really want to ride ....

These days I work from home so I ride when I feel like it and that is mostly 'early' afternoon

Buying a new bike or some really expensive piece of kit also seems to work - for a while

I entered the comrades...I have no choice BUT to get up at 5 every morning and run..else I am going to have a *** day in June

I think its important to set yourself a challenge (or 2 or 3) every year..If you have no goal to aim for then it makes it just that much harder

at this stage this is my motivation to get up in the mornings.

Exactly what I do during the week. Bugger off from work early and go ride. Works for me.

Besides, most weekends you getting up at "sparrows" to go ride anyway!!
