Never ever underestimate any other riders skill level.

There will always be someone faster and almost always someone slower than you.

And yes there are some aunties that will give you a good hiding out on the trails.

I find that you get faster as you learn to 'read' the trail.

Everyone knows to look ahead, not at the bit in front of your wheel, but there's a lot to be gained in figuring out the best line, which part of the trail is likely to have the best grip etc. And not stressing too much when you lose that line.

Staying loose on the bike will also see you speed up, let the bike move around under you, forwards and back, left and right.

And last thing, if you're riding with someone faster than you, it'll make you a better rider.

Guaranteed.

Okay so just to make sure I got this right:

1. Don't be a wuss...gooi mielies?

2. Surgically remove a part of your spine to get lower

3. First check if you actually have a spine

4. Shivalry is dead...if you get to the top first GO don't wait for "ladies first"

5. Get a Pyga

6. Buy a good pair of full gloves, knee and elbow protectors, and finally make sure your medical aid status.

(once saw a lady in almost full body armour at "Fun Klippertjie Gaalens" during a Nissan race......and then I found out why.......she just let rip on the rocky downhills)

7. Grow some cajonas...  ;)

The wise words of Sheng Wang spring to mind: “Why do some people say, ‘Grow some balls?’  Balls are weak and sensitive. If you really wanna get tough, grow a vagina. Those things take a pounding.”

Bwahahahaha! Don't worry, been there too. Rode my heart out in a road race, only to come in behind the groot tannie on her pienk bicycle (with sparkly bits of glitter, and streamers on the bars).

Have you thought about the possibility that it was just arthritis that prevented the old lady from using the brakes?

I remember a certain Mr Kimble putting about 20 of the VA bunch into the ditch coming down into Houtbay.... was like a game of 10 pin....

NEVER follow some people at their pace....  unless you know their skill levels...

Hi,

Was she realy old or just a bit haggard from a wild lifestyle. Possibly Klippies and coke instead of Powerade in her bottle and home grown weed instead of the usual siggies. Prehaps she was still deciding when to go to bed!!!!

Just a thought
