Beware that saddles can also wear out or the padding gets worn and moves from under the bone to more on the side .You want the bulk of your weight on your sit bones .This is difficult on the more aggressive saddles that have more angled sit bone areas .

Hi I also was battling with saddle and found that specialized has a tool called a assometer that measures your sitting bones and they will tell you what size saddle will fit you.

Someone tell me I'm not the only one who sees the irony in this

it exists!

haha.

I can just picture the spez workshop where they grab one of the top mechanics and told him.

We're doing research for a new project. So we're sending you to med school.

When you're done. You have to come back here and shoot a video

As others have said, it's a very personal choice and it's best to have your sit bones measured first and, if possible, try out a demo saddle before taking the plunge.

I've tried many many saddles and the only one that doesn't feel like an asshatchet during long rides is the Specialized Phenom (Pro). I now use it on both my MTB and road bike even though there are lighter alternatives.

Are there any shops where you can test saddles in the norther suburbs  of cape town?

Most references pertain to saddles, but don't underestimate the value of a good shorts.

very true.

Padding arangement varies accross brands and models.

Remember that more padding isn't necessarily better.

Continental pillows are for show. Not lekker to sleep with.

I bought a Koobi PRS a few years ago:

http://www.koobi.com/koobisaddles.aspx

It has two little "squash balls" under the back and a great shape for the 'nads. I have used on a mtb and road bike and all road noise or buzz is gone - it does not feel squishy at all. Just unbelievably comfortable. The leather upper is world class.

If you email them directly, they couriered it over at little expense. It was way cheaper than the other top end specialized saddle that I have and far more comfortable. Different class.
