Hi People

So I got the Fenix 3 Sapphire HR yesterday from Autostyle and all is well with the watch however I a questions:

How do you disable the auto save function?

Near the end of the ride this morning I went for a coffee which took about 30 min and when I wanted to carry the watch had saved the ride.

I have since read that I can resume the ride if I scroll further done however I would rather not have this feature enabled.

Download the connect app and manage your setting there becuase when you set it up on the watch and it syncs with the app, the app will upload the setting it has.

I am sure the autosave setting is in the app.

Hi AlanD

Thanks for the response. I have looked for all the settings available on the watch and in the Connect app however I have either missed it or can't seem to find it.

is there a chance you may know which menu its under?

thanks

I don't think you can turn it off, it auto saves after 25mins. You will have to scroll and hit resume later https://www8.garmin.com/manuals/webhelp/fenix3/EN-US/GUID-CC2E40CD-5D68-4A94-B143-9142343416D0.html

I havent tried to find this option as never needed it to be off. As Shaper mentioned below, it may not be available.

Perhaps you cam make use of the autopause option thats pauses the activity when you stop and re-starts it again when you get going.

Sorry last question.

Is it best to have the watch on the inside or outside of the arm from a hr point of view?

Also think having the watch on the inside will result in less potential damages.

Thanks again

If you have it on the inside then you can't really have a quick glance at it for info. You would have to take your hand off the handle bar and turn your wrist to read the info.

I have never had any issues with the HR wearing it the "right" side up. Also, I want other riders to see it and be envious of me....hahahaha

I have been using the Fenix HR for a while and it's been awsome.

It's the first time I am measuring my ride and setting some targets.

Now that I can view my HR, I have no idea what to do with the info. On my rides I am 95% of the time in the red zone. I have not configured the zones as I don't know what to set then at.

Please give me some guidance on how to use the HR effectively.

Thanks Shaper for the link.

Is there a way to turn on Sensors according to the activity you select?

When I just use the watch from day 2 day, I turn off the Cadence searching, So when I start a bike ride I have to manually go to the settings and enable it.

Thanks

I never turn on and off sensors, don't know why you need to?

When in day to day watch mode and general activity (sleeping/steps etc) the watch does not look for sensors.

When you change to an activity (to cycling) then the watch will start looking for sensors (as well as GPS) and if the sensors have been previously connected (under that activity) and stored in memory it will find them. For example I have different speed/cadence/power sensors on my road and TT bikes and it will find automatically the relevant sensors.

Similarly when I am in running activity it looks for my footpod and HRM and nothing else even if am standing next to my bike.

I have discussed this at length with Garmin as I have trained on most of the Wattbikes in the gym and therefore all those sensors are paired with my watch.  So everytime I start an activity within range of the Wattbikes I have to cancel all the sensor notifications before I can start.

I have attached a spreadsheet I normally use to set my zones utilising the Karvonen method, widely accepted as the most accurate way to determine zones without specialist tests / equipment.
