Spammey hubbers

Look, if I'm just being a grinch then fine, I'll accept that criticism and move on.

But am I the only one that is slightly annoyed at certain Hubbers who are obviously also shop owners using established threads to punt their wares on an uncolicited basis?

Kinda like the Chewlies Gum Rep in Clerks...

Yeah, I agree in principle that some threads are spoiled by this, BUT:

Not everybody have Specialized's marketing budget and some shops / distributors have to use platforms like the Hub to "punt" their services and products. For example; if a thread is about trail bikes, you cannot exactly blame someone if they post their "newest and nicest".

The great advantage about focused forums (like the ones found on the hub) is that a business owner can get potential customers to interact with existing customers. These discussions create a "buzz"  around their offerings, and are worth ten times the money spend on advertisements.

I guess there is a fine line between getting your products "out there" and annoying some people who have no interest in what you have to offer.

Please provide examples of threads where this is a problem.

I understand your frustration of the normal hub banter being violated by people trying to push their product.

However, within reason is perfectly fine. In my personal hub-noob experiance, I find it nice to know what or who is out there.

For instance: The only reason I found out about the Trailhead bike shop when I did, was on the hub. (other than using my eyes on the spruit) And if it wasn't for them, my bike would not be my droolworthy steed as it is today.

Also, it's nice to know who here actually knows what they're talking about (usually bike shop peoples), rather than people spurting random crap as facts.(like me  )

Similarly with the classifieds: Yes autostyle punts and punts their racks and goodies (sometimes a bit too spammy I must admit), but their products are decently priced. And also the fact that few cyclists look for kit at a car plek.

What I'm implying is that moderation is always a good thing.

I'm certain if it goes overboard, the mods will do their moddy mod thing

I don't mind, only if they give a hub discount! :P

I've never felt that it is too "spammey" and I have found several bargains from dealers over the years.

CWC cycles and their discount specials is a good example of advertising on the Hub that works well, I think, for the shop, Admin and us Hubbers.

CWC do it in a non-intrusive way by having a thread for it.

I see autostyle have slowed down with it but they used to spam a page and a half of the classifieds at a time when advertising before!

My gripe is just that there is a community-driven thread and then every page has a "well if you like that, WAIT TILL YOU SEE WHAT WE HAVE IN STORE. PM ME" post.

It's just annoying.

On the same topic and I am not knocking anyone but I only ever really see Cyclelab and their products on Supercycling. Or am I just imagining it?

I am not complaining since there is not much coverage of cycling on the TV anyway...

It is not like there is 7 Supersport channels showing cycling at once like certain round ball sports...

I think we should leave it to the mods.

There is still the "Report Button", and if the are to many complains about spamming .... the mods will put a stop to it.

That is why we love them so much, isn't it? :whistling:

All true but I think they can make it a bit more independent... imho...2c added.

They would have to adapt their content then.

Because last time I checked Rocky Mountain, Spez or Yeti won't be interested in advertising on a weekly XCM highlights package.
