Slowbee Posted March 11, 2015 Posted March 11, 2015 fire is everywhere ... on lourensford grounds now, also on the side on the heldeberg moving towards the nature reserve - it also split on the neck and is down on the other side of the mtn and moving into the valley (on the stellies side). also looks like it is gaining traction towards sir lowry's. the fire at tokai has helped immensely with the people here in that they are finally able to help, where they felt helpless when it came to tokai. For now the helderberg command station has enough suppplies - not sure about the stellies side. No shortage of volunteers to help. Actually to many - a lot of chiefs. As usual it is the spectators and those wanting the pulitzer prize for photography that are causing the real problems as all they want is people out the area so that emergency services can do there thing. Beeb doing non glamorous work - picking up litter so when the teams come in they have a clean place to sit and dont have to worry about litter. Cleaning goggles, wiping helmets etc. To old to fight the actual fires and my knees will never forgive me. EDIT: chopers are battling, as with no wind, visibility is very low.

Slowbee Posted March 11, 2015 Posted March 11, 2015 The STb horse club stables are there...hope they have enough horse box trailers to evacuate?from the radio it seemed they made the call very early to get out. The fire is about 1km away but the are not going to take a chance.
Matts 300 Posted March 11, 2015 Posted March 11, 2015 I stay on lourensford. Was awake for large parts of the night watching the fire coming over the mountain. Luckily the fire did not spread down into the valley. They are bombing with two helikopters on the spots that has come down by the morning. We are scared the fire is going to come over from the stellenbosch side of the mountain but there are more than a hundred fire fighters here so things are looking good.

This is what they have asked for - you can also deliver directly to Ride In Nuts, Biltong, small packets of crisps, dried fruit, energy bars, ingredients for sandwiches (tuna, ham, cheese etc) drinks (in small cans) paper plates, plastic cutlery, suncream all things they are requesting. Gate will be closed but please call 021 8833985 when you are at the gate and we will open for you. Much appreciated

Vergelegen has ground crew & aerial cover. Lourensford & Helderberg have ground crew & vehicles.ALL FLANKS ARE COVERED. NO RISK TO PROPERTY OR PEOPLE.
