I'm doing my first 94.7 this year - can't wait! I have already done 18 Argus cycle tours so it's time for a change of scenery.

Last weekend I did 2:45 in the mangaung classic which I was really happy with seeing we were only 4 guys for the last 30km.

What would be a realistic time to in the 94.7 taken into account last weekend's time? I start in C group @ 06:37

Also how does the route compare to the Argus? The profile shows the first 10km or so as climbing the entire time - is it a proper hill or more like one of those never ending drags?

I reckon a more or less average time for group C will be around 2h40 - 2h50ish

The first 10 is a gradual climb, nothing to really break your spirit. Remember you are on fresh legs too with a lot of Jungle Oats inside you to work off  :w00t:

In fact last year the first time I changed to the small chainring was the Wilds which is 38km into the race.

For me the 94.7 is a bit tougher than the CTCT. I'll see you in C. Hope to do a sub 2h50, but I think 2h55 will be more realistic.

MTB collection is at river sand and the road collection at dome?  now I have to go twice ?

Very annoying! Just stood in a queue to collect 10 numbers and  need to do it all again next week. Luckily my boss is a cyclist!

Oh and not even a plastic packet to put anything in. You get an envelope with your number and a magazine in it and a loose bottle. Try and balance 10 of those. Luckily somebody felt sorry for me and found a box I could put it all in.

What happened to the goody bags?

I honestly have to say it was extremely disorganised today.Had to do a substitution. Only one person knew what to do once the form was filled in and he had to explain to everyone how to process it. An hour later I finally had it done and this is not my first MTB ride but its shocking. Also I think paying R395 for a race including chip with no goodie bag is a bit excessive. Nissan Trail Seeker is half the price and well worth the money. I don't know maybe I just had a bad morning but anyone else feel the same?

I'll be very happy with anything under 2h50!!

Ye, I kinda expected a goody bag considering the cost. Instead of a new bottle I would prefer some sunscreen or food samples. I got bottles already.

Was in and out pretty quick. Clever having the small stalls dotted around. Ended up blowing another R800 on stuff on my way out - sigh. Impulse buying at its best.

My mate picked my race pack up last year and I still managed to blow some money at the stalls last year   Impulsive buying is what those stalls are for, haha

SBR. It has almost the same amount of climbing but it is shorter with about 35km shorter. I know cyclist who did a 3.30 last year at 94.7 and struggling to finish the big loop without walking at sbr.

Going there again on Sunday for final check ups on vital components!

I did sbr for the first time on sunday and found it really tough. Did it on a borrowed road bike and really missed the granny gears on my MTB. In two minds now which bike I should use for 947.

Did 947 last year on the MTB  in just over 5 hours.

SBR is (arguably) the toughest ride if you incorporate CG and the Vaal. I haven't dabbled in the North much. 1200m (Garmin) of climbing in just short of 60km is no mean feat.

I highly suggest you do it on a bike that you feel comfortable with. If you need your granny gears, don't sacrifice them for a lighter bike. This race as much as it is a physical challenge is a mental one too. Your mind will give in long before your body does if you let it. Take each hill as it comes, enjoy the downhills, keep a reasonable cadence on the flats and you will make it out alright. My very first 947 is did on a MTB in 4h20 FYI.

I'd say a really good time would be under 2 hours.

So good in fact that you may even get a prize.

And a visit from our friendly law enforcement! Just to extend their congratulations on your frankly world class effort!
