I'm thinking of coming up to use it as prep for Tour Durban. I'm assuming flat and fast?

To work out gearing needs, what would A and B batches typically race at? Anything I need to know about route profile, road surface conditions and road furniture?

I was in BL last year

Average 37.9

Pancake flat

Looks like perfect preparation for Tour of Durban then, thanks folks.

Now I need to hand my leave form in to the boss (read missus) for a weekend in Jozi.

Anyone know if its a seeding event for 947 and CTCT ?

947 website indicated it was a seeding event for 2014, so presume same logic ( ) would apply for 2015.

Good race, only 2 areas to be concerned about, route crosses over North rand road which is the busiest road in Boksburg, marshals/metro police are going to have their hands full here and the route to finish has a long stretch with longer and shorter riders sharing the road.

Third item of concern

Agreed, there are very few races - the only one I have seen is Kremetart, but that's in Limpopo...4 hours drive. I guess it will be time to hang up the road bike and get on the MTB again!

I have done the Kremetart for the last two years.  The first year being the traditional route with 4 stages, and last year the temp route due to roadworks.  Last year was only three stages.

There is something special about the race, possibly the vibe between stages, but does not feel like a race, but you ride dam hard.

I have entered this year again, and looking forward to it.

Well worth the drive.

The section far right is not correct. The route goes straight through Sharon Park and left of Springs Golf Club (green bit on map) whereas the map shows right and left.

Route will probably remain the same.

Start is also not correct - map indicates cycle along the R21 and N12. Cycle actually goes down Jones, onto Yarwyn, and then over the N12 at Rondebult.

Lol, we cool out East Rand way. Imagine having a race in Sandton that cuts across Rivonia or one of the other busy roads.

OK I've entered :).

But now does anyone know about the kiddies race?

I've got a young lady (my god daughter) who wants to enter the kiddies race on Sunday. I've been onto the ASG and Cycle Events websites and don't see any further information except for the fact that it starts at 10h00. There's no way to enter for the kiddies race - do the kids just pitch up on the day and ride for free?

A few years ago we did do that. Got straight onto the R21(left lane was secured off for the race) and swung round onto N12 and then got off the loop at rondebolt. So maybe we doing that again or its an old map.

whats the MTB route like? 40km Where does it go? Just around the airport area?

Pretty much, Yes. 40km is 2 laps. You start at emperors and do a tar road sprint on jones road down to the forest. Then just basically work your way around the airport.
