Re the free glasses, I use those Rudy's as safety goggles when I do my edge trimming...... Works a charm

ASG is convinced, because apparently their surveys say so, that we all love the "free stuff" and that they must keep doing it.

Perhaps a Hub poll would help them a bit.

What survey? I've never been asked to fill one in.

Thats fine then, let the goodie bag whores get stuff and pay the premium and the rest just enter.

hi milky

Mnr Lemmer hoe lyk jou inskrywings koste?

It shouldn't, but if CSA decides to check every bodies memberships/licenses in order to sanction the event, there is not much Racetec or ASG could do about it.

Funny that Panorama had no such issues

Neither did 50 other races that we could list, ones timed by Racetec and not arranged by ASG, other timed by Championchip and arranged by ASG also worked fine...... Satelite Classic last year, arranged by ASG timed by Racetec, sanctioned by CSA was a massive success.

But what you are leaning towards, supports my point. That there was more than one thing that went wrong at ToGH with regards to the timing, trying to isolate the problem to a single point of failure wont work, because there were many.

Anyways my comment stands: I wont enter the race again unless ASG, in writing, states that they will compensate us if there is timing issues again.

ASG should start by accepting the blame and then start correcting it. By them accepting no responsibility for the problems alone is a major problem to me and shows they honestly care less about anyone else but themselves.

Of the SV racing group from this year, I know that 3/4 of them are not coming back when discussed over the last 2 days amongst many.

Yet, so easily avoidable

I don't even know where mine is. It has to be somewhere in a bag yet to be unpacked after the race but can't be bothered.

R5k entry, glasses I don't need, 1000's in vouchers I never use, 10kgs of goodie bag stuff I can't remember what it was, late starts in the heat, timing, seeding event I can't attend, and the been there done that (finished this year) all adds up.

This guy needs to do the ToGH, he needs those glasses more than I do.

Ugh, leaning more towards spending the R5k on a tour to Plett with Mates, smash some awesome passes, massive distance and maybe some days on gravel on the road bikes.

It was nice but without confirmation from Racetec and a 42% increase in price we not keen any more.

On a side note, this looks like fun

Any DC teams that want to join let me know, we have about 5 teams already in.

There will even be a trophy for each team category. :P No entry fee, no timing (just STRAVA), no road closures, common sense and a lekker day on the bike.

50 % increase over last year's entry fee. If this continues the ToGH becomes the new Cape Epic, only available to a few who can afford such crazy entry fees or those lucky enough to get corporate sponsorship :-(

How do they justify the increase? because of less riders? What more are they offering in the 2017 edition. Better timing? Surely not the latter, when that should be a given.

The glasses you guys don't need have been great for some people though - saw a few going for excellent prices in the classifieds.

Should you find yours and still feel you have no use for them, let me know ;)

I know for a fact that Racetec has NOT been approached by ASG or any other event leading up to the Tour of Good Hope.

So whoever is going to be the timing - it won't be them.

Racetec has already confirmed they will do the timing - we sent out a communication to that effect just after this year's event.  This does lead to a increase in price however.  The limit on entries and seeding should eliminate a big percentage of the other problems/concerns we were informed about but sadly does make the cost per rider more.  We have also looked at all the constructive feedback received and will implement appropriate improvements.  It may seem a lot but for those riders who were there this year (and stop to think about it for a while) will know what goes into an event like this day-by-day (not to mention in the weeks and months preceding it).  A thread circulated some time ago about the cost of putting up an event - in the case of a tour it is even more - consider 100+ staff/marshals/officials that must be accommodated, travel long distances on route everyday, meals to staff and riders everyday, venue hire, etc and that's before you get to the big cost items...we wish it was possible to host a tour of this scale for less but without a huge increase in sponsorship it is what it is (for now).  We realise some guys will not be able to afford this or view it as too expensive and we sincerely regret that but it is also true that the tour (with only 500 riders) will fill up quickly and we are going all out to give these guys an unbelievable experience.   ASG made a huge loss on the last two events so claims of super profits are misplaced and completely wrong...we obviously hope (and need) to change this one day.  Another fact - the goodie bags is not what determines the entry fee (a maximum of 5% of entry fees are allocated to goodie bags & gifts).  The content of this year's goodie bags was the result of endless sponsorship deal negotiations and commitments by various partners from many months prior to the event.  Hope to see you guys out there in what we believe now represents the ultimate road tour challenge in South Africa for Amateurs and Pros alike.
