What you mean now?

Just saw them at the Expo for the first time. I bought mine direct because I wasn't aware of local agents. Is that you? Show us that fatty you had at the Expo.

No it isn't me... But they have been here a few years! Not much in the way of publicity but around!! Great bikes for heavier riders and anyone really.

I'm touching 100kg's from time to time and have had no issues on my Carbon Stumpie. Big difference when I tested various bikes 2 years ago is wider rims. The Roval Controls are solid and stiff, and the Pike I put on also gives me enough confidence to hammer it going down.

agreed re the wider wheels and that pike will also help being more rigid on 35mm vs 32mm stanchions.

Not skimping on tyre's by getting the light weight options with flexy sidewalls. ...... Get proper ust tyres with a thick sidewall, it will roll and squirm far less corners and flat landings.

I weight in at 98 - 85kgs pending my fitness and injury levels :P

Had a 36 rc2 fox van before and that just held a like nothing else. Strong wide wheels have really improved my riding experience.....yet I still occasionally make the mistake of getting slightly flimsy tyres :(

So what rims would you advise for a guy that is about 125kgs? I understand that wider is better, and saw that Stans Flow is quite wide.

Are there any other ones which are very strong and wide? I have crossmark UST on my stans Arch, but want to upgrade the rims to stronger ones, as I do take the occasional jump etc.

i had the exact opposite experience.  cracked / broken 3 alu frames previously with reasonably mild riding and now on a carbon steed and doing much more knarly stuff.

took some serious falls with the bike in rock gardens over the last few months and contrary to popular belief the "plastic" bike didn't just snap.

I am also one of the heavier riders, weighing in around 110 - 120kg's depending.

I recently had a 26" Merida 120 frame break on me, three years old. (freebee: western national insurance is no good). I also argued that 26" is better due to my riding preferences, more fun down hill than up, and my weight, for the stiffness factor.

Well a long story short, I now ride a Cannondale Trigger 2 29", this thing is built like a truck, strong, stiff and solid as a rock on the more fun parts. I would even go as far as to say it is stiffer than my old 26er. It is slightly heavier, but it still climbs great and really efficient. It has great 130mm suspension that is very adjustable, with a 130mm Fox 34 in front.

This bike I can really recommend to anyone as a good solid and very versatile bike.

I am a bit heavier than some of the amounts that have been said here. i used to be a bit lighter at 116kgs but recently things went a bit downhill but anyways...i've had a GT Avalanche MTB, Giant TCR roadbike, Cannondale CAAD 8 roadbike and now for the past 2.5years my main bike is a XTC 29er, all bikes alu.

The XTC's frame cracked but its the standard spot for giant frames to crack so i dont think my weight caused it.

The only issue i had was the cannondale's standard wheels didn't do the trick, spokes went EVERY ride at +- 40-50km and when it pops my weight pulls them so bad they can't turn even when brakes loosened. I had a set of Mavic wheels which didnt give me a days problems.

On my XTC (i use the anthem rims with the DT Swiss hubs) but standerd spokes and rimes and i have only had 1 spoke go on me in the 2.5 years and it was half way in a 60km MTB race and i finished without it looking too bad.

Which big gun would wish to do epic. At my peak weight I must be 110 to 115kg. Epic is a dream or joberg2c but need to find a rider of same weight. Maybe same size too 6.8" or 205cm

Thanx for everyones comments. Ja its a Fuji SLM 1.3. use it to ride in and around the VAAL. Dont do any jumps or crazy stuff cause I dont wanna break anything(self employed-no work no pay) so I take it easy. Also been using it for road races like Argus and 94.7etc. I dont have any issues with wheels or components, just frame cracking.

So I'm thinking of just getting another frame.

I ride a Santa Cruz Tallboy and i weight 116 atm at best i weight about 105. I ride the alu but would ride carbon version also. I rode a Titan 29er comp alu before and also had no issues. The Titan didn't have the same conditions however as at that stage I mostly rode XC now i ride more Trail.

WTB i23 are nice and strong as they have an I beam designed into their rim. Also the 4D drilling of spoke holes in the rim allows the spokes to line up exactly with the holes in the hub. Usually means that spokes don't settle as easily and need to be retrued after a few rides. Also not too heavy and they not badly priced. Paired with WTB dual ply tyres and you are gold. Have built these for a number of big guys who constantly had wheel issues before.
