Wheelset Advice?

Hello Hubbers...

Please help on the best way forward for a new wheelset on my 29er Giant Trance X.

I currently have the standard PCX wheels which are taking a little strain on the trails.

The front hub is a 20mm T/A and the rear is the std QR...

I have poured over most online sites and keep getting stumped with the 20mm front?

I am looking for the widest rim possible, Wide Lightnings would be my ideal but only come out with a 15mm

and are never in stock!

What would be the best way forward, I am not overly concerned about weight but want the strength for bombing down the hills!

Any advice appreciated.

Cheers

Try Rapide' they are in Jhb but they could build almost anything for you.

Speak to Wayne 0718935159

wheels very light and durable.

good luck with the hunt.

The wide lightnings are brilliant choice. Not only are they bloody robust and can take a beating,it's almost obscene how light and pedal efficient they are.

My favourite wheels I've owned. Only downside is they don't make them in 26"..Sis on them.

Hi Guys

Thanks for the responses!

GregM - I have looked at the Rapide site but their rims are "only" up to 23mm I.W as far as I can tell?

I have thought of going the re-lacing route and just getting a set of Flows laced up and be done with it.... Any suggestions on a Wheel Builder in the Cape Town area? Blouberg would be great :)

Pikey.... The WL's is what I REALLY want but I cannot find them as a rim only option and the hub and pre-built wheel set is only 15mm TA..............please tell me I am wrong here....PLEASE!

Cheers

Mid last year I took a gamble on a set of Chinese rims from Carbonality.

They are awesome, probably the best single upgrade I've ever experienced on a bike.

I had them built up on Hope Pro 2's, which have adapters to accomodate any axle size, with wheelsmith spokes.

A really fast, strong and fairly light wheelset.

Rims cost R3999 all in, door to door.

Have a look at their website, they are available in various widths now.

Cheers.

Ya, I did the same with Light Bicycle. 35mm carbon rims - 390g each. Just rode them over the Himalayas - I had my reservations when I bought them, but all I can say now is that this is an awesome product. They've transformed my bike.

Otherwise look at the Spank rims/wheels - I think the Trailhead sells them in JHB.

If it "only come out with a 15mm" is is not Wide Lightnings; if I understand you correctly.

Perhaps some other American Classic model wheelset.

If you want strong wide rims then Bibi is the right guy to chat to.

Have you had problems on the seal tape? Few month old on the tape leaks. not sure how to replace the tape or remove and install STANS tape...
