This is probably best place to post this….Got a sms from a guy calling himself “ France” I have his tel nr if I need to post it.  (I only advertised here)

He wants to buy my bike without any further info or pics and immediately wants do a eft, then get a friend to pick it up as he is in the vaal.

When I phoned him  back I told him  we can meet in person, he needs to email me from a legit email address as well as post a comment “ taken” on my advert he disappeared.

Note that “France” also does not use what’s  app  and has a foreign accent. Both of these are big flags in my book. Not a single question was asked apart from I will eft when can I send a person to pick up.

If mr France is legit, sorry but the whole thing smells of scam.

Not really "infiltrated" but it is a case of people looking everywhere. Besides - if you type in "bicycle classifieds" in Google, and select results from SA, The Hub is the 2nd entry.

People don't have to log in to see contact info if it's placed on the ad for all to see - they just phone / sms. Granted, that means that you have to watch for scammers, but it's arguably safer if you keep your ads to The Hub and converse either through PM or comments on the ad itself. You just have to remain vigilant, and have a bit of common sense when dealing with a seller / buyer.

Also, not sure if it was applicable to your ad, but there's a checkbox for the following:

"Only show to members (If not checked your contact details will be displayed publicly.)"

I always check this...to cover myself from spambots and scammers.

All the cynicism is killing me what happens if that Nigerian Prince actually needs my help and my bank account details to move his $47,609, 324.00 into my back account because of his cruel uncle.... he does keep emailing me and he said I can have 10%.

and that 10% would afford you a nice new bike and an entry for next year's joBerg2C (among other things), after all ...

haha you should of just told him that it's a done deal, and then get the other dude to meet you somewhere crazy like a good hour or two drive from where you are, and then obviously just not show up. Waste their time the same way they waste ours.
