Starts easy, increases a bit, just to fool you it then drops before going up and up.  When you are totally blown the gradient decreases fractionally and it then laughs at you trying to keep some momentum going.  A short sharp downhill - not long enough to drop your heart rate and then another kick guaranteed to give you cramps.  Otherwise fine!

For those of us who have never been to the cradle, please enlighten us about Hekpoort.

I stand to be corrected but total about 4km long at average around 5% but the backbone of the climb is about 3km at 7%

September / October turning into quite a nice time this year with some real good and tough races

OOH I like

Thanks for posting

@Scott hekpoort is the same climb as featured in the satellite classic

and trust me only hitting it at 110km is going to hurt

If you want to compare it, it is in the same category as hillsnacks (berge & dale) but feels alot tougher, I would say it compares to scorpion climb in SBR, but its still easier than spitzkop and longtom

I see from cycleevents.co.za that the venue has changed to the Krugersdorp Game Reserve with a change in route distance. However they haven't updated the event website yet.

Wonder why use of Heia Safari fell through? The residue of the recent Trirock problems?

I've emailed asking for clarification on routes, but it looks like the elite route drops from 146 to 130km and the 'other' route increases from 104 to 111km, so it doesn't look as simple as the extra bit from the Game Reserve to the original provisional routes?
