Anthem sx looks like a good match for you. If you want to save some cash and the bikes are really only for "Sunday social" rides then maybe have a look at the Giant Stance (not Trance), you could probably organise 2 for 30k. Especially if you not doing actual races (anthem) or tech trail (trance). I almost bought one for my girlfriend but found a second hand trance for similar price. Also, the stance has 120mm travel (like the anthem sx) which is a nice middle ground. I rode the camber for a few weeks and wasn't blown away by it, but then again other guys love it.

I understand, but I'm not buying to do just Sunday afternoon rides. I am too competitive to get stuck there. After i get the hang of it there is enough downhill paaidjies to hone my skills and after 2 or 3years who knows. Sani2c?

What do you guys think about this deal http://www.vbike.co.za/giant-trance-27-5-2-2014/

Check out the Trance 2 thread.

It looks like a good deal. +you can add a dropper seatpost and still be under the Epic's price.

Only issue with the 2014 Giants is the stearer tube diameter (OD2 - 2014). OD2 for 2014 wasn't the standard 1&1/8". Therefore you are locked into Giant stems/if you want to do a fork upgrade sometime in the future, you'll sit with a fork you'll sukkel to sell. This changed with the 2015 models. BUT if your bike fits, changing stems wont be an issue.

The other issue some reviewers had is that the Fox 32 fork was a bit flexy for a 140mm travel bike. Some of the bigger okes riding Trances would be able to add some constructive comments regarding this.

BTW: If When this mtb-thing properly bites, you'll end up spending all your free time building tech single track on the farm...

Also remember that you're going to want to be more and more competitive therefore you're going to need a bike that can 'keep up'.  Your wife on the other hand is probably not so ......  spend the whole 30K on your rig , have her sulk for a few days , she'll get over it and you'll end up with a sweet ride.  :whistling:

Dirtypot, my biggest problem is getting the bike here

Lots of bike couriers available - prices vary but are around R800ish.  Otherwise TimeFreight - I move motorbikes all over the country with them all the time with no problems at all.
