I had one of those Suntour XC something spring forks. 100mm

Damping on those things were damn near non existent. Come to think of it.

The only decent short travel spring loaded fork I ever felt was a marzocchi.

Correct springs inside forks are rider weight dependent and should be replaced accordingly. Not sure if you can source a spring for your weight with that fork but its worth a try if you strapped for cash.

If you hellbent on a new fork (and you should be) you can't go wrong with air.

Any damping issues you have can be sorted with correct pressures and sag for your weight.

Have a looks in the classifieds for a good deal on a used one

ive seen giant anthems for sale brand new from the importer with that shok fitted  so it can only be a huge improvement  if the price is what works for you  and it comes with warranty etc why not

I have the Epicon, mine was adjustable (If you take it apart a bit) from 80-140mm. Had no issues with it, only hassle I had was trying to get info on the oil and amounts etc for a service, they were pretty set on not assisting really. Other than that its a good value for money fork I think.

Thanks ,

Saw it on CWC fro R3000 but will look around a bit more.

I just did not want something that does not work after three months or so.

As long as it does its job I am happy.

Suntour XCR's are pieces of crap (the elastomer models) - don't have any experience with the XCR-AIR models.

The Epicon is a decent fork for the price, but if I were you I'd get a RockShox XC32 Solo Air (similar price range). Much easier to deal with when service time comes around.

The rockshock xc32 is def what i would be looking at. But you can get a reba second hand for about that price. Service is one of biggest problems with regards to forks and suntour just doesnt seem to support that side.

The local Hub suspension gurus have said in many previous threads on the topic that although the Epicon seems to be a good fork, they can't get spares for them....so servicing is not really possible....and an air fork needs servicing at least once per annum if you ride it regularly and want it to last.

I have an Epicon on my Anthem and it's worked well so far. The LBS where I bought it have serviced it, they managed to get a new part needed under warranty in 24 hours.

Second hand reba for R3000 on a lucky day. Sell the suntour for R1000. Boom.

Spoke to the Suntour agents a while back and parts are available, haven't tested this though... If it were me I'd rather go for a Rockshox though.

26 or 29?

Thanks again

A bit wary of second hand fork.

Also diod not think I would get a Rock shox for that price will be asking about the XC 32.

Also do not know Reba. but will google and serve the hub for more info.

I have an Epicon on my 29er set at 120mm, brilliant fork. Just taken the fork in for a service and will be getting it back tomorrow. Seems like the service is very simple (no oil inside other than that on the foam rings).

My wife has an XCR Air on her bike and so far I'm very impressed with it.

I would love to get a Rockshox (because of availability of service parts), but for pure value for money I will stick to the mid-range Suntour forks for now.
