Patchelicious Posted June 5, 2015 Posted June 5, 2015 That is not banting or paleo either.... Funny thing about these discussions about sports nutrition.......we all have a good idea about what we should and should not be eating, so even if we agree on the best diet...it does not matter ... 90% of us eat rubbish on the weekends anyway.EXACTLY and then moan that we aren't fat adapt and that LCHF is rubbish..... My wife (please baby jesus do not let her read this) is a good example... She says, she thinks and even believes that she is on LCHF. And moans that she isnt losing weight. I then kept a food diary for her for 1 week to show her the truth, she is now angry at me

Dgas Posted June 5, 2015 Posted June 5, 2015 I have lost 20kg's since February. No special diet just eating less and more bike time. I log every kilojoule that I eat. Not all that difficult, I have a app on my iPad, and you can see where you go wrong, what has high kilojoule content and what has not. Loosing weight is not all that complicated if your kilojoule intake is higher then what you put out, you will put on weight and vice versa. Excersize is also counted in kilojoules. The more you excersize the more you can eat or loose weight. Diets are just there to make somebody money, buy the book join their group etc.

Whether the method to promote weight-loss is healthy and whether you have side efects, loss of sport performance etc. is another thing. Many people do not know what a healthy diet is, how many grams of protein etc. they need to take in and so forth. Some people are not IT literate, so logging meals and snacks on iPads and laptops is stretching them too far. Some people are averse to exercise or have medical issues e.g. osteoarthritis of the knees which prevent them from pushing the exercise component. I could carry on, but I'm sure you see why the condition of being overweight is more prevalent than with what could be explained by the energy balance equation.
Patchelicious Posted June 5, 2015 Posted June 5, 2015 Logging your diet is not difficult. Apps like FatSecret make it incredibly easy. If you can WhatsApp you can Fatsecret. In fact it is easier doing that than writing it down on a piece of paper, and way more accurate as it calculates F/P/C intakes etc.. So that is hardly an excuse. I have found that people often don't like doing it because the reality of what they eat is not what they want to believe they are consuming. So they revert to the ostrich head in the sand approach. Its not just a diet thing, its a human thing. In my role as COO in our business, its my job to track efficiencies and productivity. People truly believe they are productive (easting right) until it is measured, so they rather not have it measured..... avoid the problem by not facing it. A food diary is the one of the single easiest ways to get your calorie intake in order.

Take for example smoking. People know that it can lead to cancer and other disorders, but choose to ignore that and smoke. I know it seems easy to log one's food and fluid intake, but there are people who don't yet have whatsapp for various reasons, and hence using a mobile app would be tough for them. For a disciplined, motivated sportsman/woman, diet and exercise can be adjusted and tweaked quite easily. For somebody that has struggled their whole lives with their weight, it is a lot harder. We could see it as an excuse or not making adequate effort, but perhaps we aren't aware of the 100+ times they have tried and not been successful... Psychology plays a big part in life, with eating and exercise being two areas where it is especially involved.

They are cyclists, using a web based electronic forum.
