I have a BMW Williams F1 road bicycle which belonged to my late husband. I believe it is too heavy for racing and would like to know if anybody might be interested. It is similar to the attached picture. And do not ask me to tell you about components etc - I'm a complete idiot when it comes to the techie bike bits. I just believe it is wasted in my house if there is someone out there that can appreciate it. I can send actual pictures to anybody that would like to see.

Hi Didi

Welcome to the hub :)

As you are in Northcliff, take the bike to Northcliff cycles http://www.northcliffcycles.co.za/en/

They will be able to tell you about the bike, the components and what you can look to get when selling it.

Then advertise in the classifieds once you have the info on the specification of the bike and components

Check your DM (direct mail). I will send you a number of a mate of mine who collects old bikes and restores them

I'm in Northcliff, so happy to come check it out (components and condition etc) for any interested buyers. Best bet though might be to spend a little money cleaning it up and putting it up on ebay - your return could be pretty good, there isn't a huge market for this here in SA.

Don't let someone take you for a ride though, as Shebeen posted, if it's in good condition, you should be looking well north of R10k

Hi

Maybe we could arrange for you to come through on Saturday afternoon sometime? ...........

Hi Didi

Welcome to the hub. I deleted your number and sent it to Andrew Steer to give you  a call to arrange something.

I would advise against putting your cell phone number on a public forum such as this. There are many a scam artist who will want to swindle that bike off your hands for very little money (actually for no money).

If you click on a user account you will see a private message button. Rather use that to send private information.

Morning all.

I must admit to knowing nothing of the BMW F! etc bicycle!

However, a search revealed:

http://road.cc/content/forum/89862-fs-bmw-williams-f1-q8r-bike-very-special-rare-bike

So it seems a pretty rare bike and depending on the colour of the stripe, may be rarer or rare!

Quite honestly Didi, I don't think you'll find a market for it here, at its value. It's probably better to try and sell it overseas. If you sell via eBay, shipping will cost about R1500, or thereabouts. So a sale price of £1000 (which is probably an under value), would probably net you around R17 000.

If you can find someone here to pay that amount of Rs, I think you should sell it.

My 2c worth.

Went and checked out the bike over the weekend...
Basically it's in pretty much perfect condition - "shop soiled" would be a discredit to it. It has according to Nina only be for one short ride, and I'd say the condition verifies that - I struggled to find even the smallest nicks. (Her husband had a fancy Carbon Carrera he rode instead)

Photos below, but a brief run down on the bike:
BMW Williams F1 Q8 frame with a Carbon Reynolds fork
Full Campy Record 10 speed - I'm not a Campag expert, but everything looks in great condition apart from the greasy chain.
Wheels are Campag Neutron (Assymetric) with carbon hubs, I couldn't ride them as the tyres were flat, but they looked in good condition too and seemed to be running 100% true.
Finished off with Speedplay pedals, carbon Campag seatpost and a leather covered BMW saddle. Only minor let down is the pretty generic stem and bar.
