I frequent the hardware aspect of mega mica (Beauty of a company account) and always browse through the cycling section to see whats what... was bummed a few weeks back when it looked like it was shutting down, but popped in yesterday (Hardware again....) and was thrilled to see the new stock thats come in.... including a black Merida that gave me a sleepless night last night!

Incidentally, this would be an awesome spot to start a group ride.... central to the view and kensington side, can head off over the hill to germiston side, out towards modderfontein, or over the other side and head north, plenty of parking for those driving in, coffee shop on site.... and afterwards you can pick up the nuts and bolts needed for the DIY jobs to keep the missus happy... or leave her at Eastgate while you ride!

I am in and out that shop on a daily basis for supplies, and it does seem the cycling side of the store is waning, looked like they were clearing stock recently. I think most cyclists want a more personalised and informed attention like one would get from Tony up the road, staff there can be a bit vacant at times.

Eastgate Cycles - yeah I was there! They had a great wrench who went on to Johnsons Cycles for a while, or was Johnsons Cycles not that shop adjacent to Mica  in Eastgate at one stage?

Other than that Indian Food take away / Samoosa shop in the far south eastern entrance, i must add Eastgate has very little to offer me in general. Shop after shop of overpriced and unappealing clothing. Can't even get a decent takeaway coffee anyhere (Starbux sux)

Last time I was there, I enjoyed the free wifi. To think when I was in high school/just out of school we spent many hours at eastgate. Now it's "out of my way"

I dont do malls at the best of times, but after the revamp where they have now decided that all parking would need to be paid for I refuse to go there.

I popped in at Mega Mica last week - I don't think I had to pay for parking that side.

Shows how long ago I was last there. Didn't even know the parking is paid for. But tbh it's the norm now. I do pretty much all my shopping in the greenstone area. LBS, groceries, medicine, gym, hardware. Very little I can't do in greenstone area.

but isnt mega mica on the opposite side of the road ? i.e. not part of east gate ? We're talking about Eastgate itself here

the way things are going I probably wont do any shopping in a brick and mortar store again. Every centre is slowly making all the parking paid parking. If I'm spending money at your centre then why must I also pay to park there, I refuse to frequent your centre then.

A number of years back I was in the process of buying a franchise store in a centre in the north, for many years it was free parking, then they revamped the centre and made the parking pay only. The foot traffic in the centre after they activating the parking system dropped to around 25% and had not recovered 2 years later.

This presented a big problem for stores like the one I wanted to buy as people wanted to drop off their stuff and come back a few hours later to collect.

My view on this is rather ironic since one of the biggest projects I've ever worked on was the IT infrastructure that runs the ORT parking system.

Seems Mega Mica is replicating the CYMOT business model - https://www.cymot.com/

If you are ever in Windhoek, you really should pop in at CYMOT ....

At first incredibly strange to see "everything" in a single store.  But oooo-so nice !!

Outside the main shopping centre - I'd say more across the car park than across the road. I usually park in the car park along that side of the mall and use the mall entrance there if I need to go in (which isn't often - I prefer to go into shops that I can walk straight into without having to go via a whole lot of other shops).

The ground level parking at Eastgate is free but its worth noting Mega Mica has its own free boom controlled "VIP" parking for customers just to the RHS of the entrance. I normally park the other side right to the south for easy and rapid access.

Be aware that Metro cops troll the parking for expired license disks!!!!

They still troll the parking lot?  Haven't seen it in years but then again, I hardly go to Eastgate preferring Bedford Centre myself.

Can use that same account/contractors card in cycling ;)

I'm guessing it was the Reacto you saw? Almost makes me want to own a road bike, almost.

Spot on! I've been sussed some urban groad stuff up the hill and surrounds too.

We are looking at group rides, especially for the long term and with coffee shop and restaurant attached it just makes sense and there is much scope in what can be done.

We're open to partnering up with any clubs/groups who would like to run with this. Also seeking an operator for the coffee shop/restaurant setup, needs some energy.

That is a fantastic, well worth a visit if up in the windy corner. Been years since visiting Namibia.

They do, as I found out with no less than two tickets for an expired licence disc (two weeks)

Keep us in the loop on when the group rides start.  I would be keen.
