now that's clutching at straws...

What would be a REAL benefit is if Europcar can supply bike racks to CSA members with cars being rented and also store bike boxes at their airport pick-up points. No one wants to rent a van just to get 2 x bikes, luggage and 2 peeps from the airport to their destination.

No mention of what this rate is? 5%?

I book all my local and international car hire via a foreign site who offer rates which are 20-30% cheaper than any local operator offers directly.

I'd gladly pay R1200 if the bulk of the money actually went to cycling, and not administrators flying business class and staying 5 star.

CSA has not been able to put a Tour of SA together, nor have they done anything tangible for development of the sport. We see that promising athletes have to compete internationally without their support and assistance and when it came to selection for Olympics etc. in the past, the best riders often found themselves not being selected.

None of this is Europcar's fault, but a small % off my next car rental is no benefit to me.

Why you paying R1200 - most pay R120. Most people probably give more than that away to car cards in a month and still pay insurance on their cars. Full License holder something like R300!

You are missing the point. I said that I'd gladly pay more if CSA was less useless. Whether I pay R120 or R1200, or whether CSA is trying to re-invent themselves as a lifestyle reward scheme for that matter, is irrelevant. The only thing that will get me onboard is if they become less useless. I would gladly support CSA (even at R1200 opposed to R120) if they at least partially executed their mandate.

I quite enjoyed watching the  3 UCI road race CSA put on recently in Natal trying to get our rider points to go to Olympics. Not too mention all the MTB UCI event that have happened in RSA (I don't follow MTB cycling so not sure exactlly how the organization works their) in the past few years - even Worlds champs. Personally for the amount of money CSA get each year, I am surprized they are able to host events and try get riders to Worlds and Olympics, it is such a small amount of funds compared with other countries.  Not sure what their entire mandate is but I know it is more focused on the racing snakes!

OK more specifically, why was Cherise Stander not selected to go to the last Olympics? She qualified and was the form rider at the time. Why did Maroesjka Matthee and other track cyclists have to try and make their own way to the world track champs earlier this year? What happened with that diabolical tour of SA 2 or so years ago? Where is the cycling academy that should have been established years ago (or at least taken over by CSA when Neotel dropped doper Hoffman)?

I can go on and on, but this is why CSA will not see any of my cash.

What are you basing their uselesness on - past circumstances of swimming pools and the like or current situation. I have seen a drastic shift towards CSA trying to offer more for the rider. Years ago you paid R120 and got nothing...now you pay R120 and get medical cover, benefits in the form of car hire etc ..I see that as a positive.

Sure they have heaps of room for improvement and lots of skeletons, but I see change and thats a positive for me. And I am not even going to begin to list all the things that KZN cycling is doing for the betterment and growth of the sport down here in KZN
