VA racing team - process?

A few of us who race in vets but not in teams are looking to form a team. Can anybody explain what the process is and a link to the rules/regulations. I have checked CSA website but that seems to apply to Elites, Juniors and Women.

Also all of us are a member of an existing cycling club but won't be racing under the club's name. My reading from the regulations is that this is ok, but can somebody confirm.

I don't understand the why part? Why would you want to have a vets racing team? Just ride elite as Vets or if you have a sponsor or not just make jerseys for everyone in your VA group and ride as 'n team?

The why part seems obvious. There was a long discussion about this in that cool VA Racing thread.

There are about 4-5 teams currently in VA and they do all the work, all the attacks etc. and then you have 50 solo riders who all just hang on in the hopes of a result.

Most people there agreed more teams would be good for the category hence these questions.

Riding for a purpose is more fun and making yourself bleed for a teamie is also better than doing to for others and then just getting shelled.

Lots of good reasons for it.

There is no real rules for making a team in Vets racing, only Elite racing has governance because that's where the money is.

If all of your guys are anyway in the same club, then just race in the same jersey and people will assume you race as a team. No special license, no special permissions.

There isn't a rule that states that you have to wear certain kit anymore, so you can use whatever kit you like. You don't even need to be in the same club.

You all have to get a racing license.... and that all. You can do this through a club or you can for your own club and then register it with CSA. The team part depends on you. Race in the same colours, and formulate your strategy beforehand.

You also cant have every licensed guy riding in 1 group, the elite group is big enough already with the U23s in the mix. We want to have our own race. For certain races you cant change age categories anyway, Take the recent kremetart for eg, A ex vet SA champ wanted to race with the elites so started with them, the organisers picked it up and made him go down to vets and penailised him heavily. IMHO unless your a fully sponsored pro like Nic White was when he retired or Nolan Hoffman is now then ride in your own age category.

Cool, I think this answers the questions.

Then there is a "team entry fee" as well, on top of your individual entry fee, not sure if this is the case up there?

Sjoe that's not cool. I don't do our entries but I don't think we have to pay a team entry fee up here.

Whats the reason behind charging extra for a team entry? Cant be any extra admin required to do?

not sure about this past fall league in the cape but when PPA organised the league they use to charge that.

That is correct, but only apply to the cape leagues, as they do have a Team competition as well. There is no team entry required for any other races, except if they stipulate it on the event entry.

There are no 'team entry fees' for Gauteng races nor any additional charges for that matter.

All you will need to do is organise your matching kit with the only potential complication being that should you wish to have a team car, you will need your driver to pass the CSA team managers license before they can follow the peloton.

Good luck and I look forward to seeing you guys on the road, more teams are great for VET racing

Okay, that makes sense. Yes, we've done the same before when we got too old for the Elites, didn't get positions so most of us moved on to being a Vets team, one of the 5 you mentioned I assume. There's no admin to it. All we did was just made jerseys based on our current sponsors, riding VA you must already be licensed so that's sorted and then we just trained, strategised and raced together.
