For sure its coming down to the wire, but I have a sense that Bruce is now not making the gains on Theo that he was for the past two days.

The blasting delay, combined with missing the Cambria gate must have been bitter pills to swallow, as on each of those occasions he was really moving.

Theo has shown himself to be super diligent and well prepared, kind of like Liehann, but with a bit more speed.

The approach to Stettyns is easier this time, but the Northwester blowing in Worcester now will surely tap the tired legs as they make their way up the Breede River Valley before swinging into the Trouthaven approach.

Both guys in my books are worthy challengers, and Theo is just showing that at his age, this is still a race of mind over matter.

Intrigued.

PS: any idea if Fanus is moving today?

I saw on the twitter feed that he was in at Dam se Drif. Was worried when his tracker didn't move today

So to the people that know

The leaders are in Stettynskloof, why would you mission al the way up the mountain, if you can stick in the valley net to the river?

The valley is a beetch. Apparently Theo knows Stettyns well and has recced it. He must be confident that the high route is quicker.

Are we in for a gentleman's agreement to share the spoils? They seem to be portaging together.

Ridge line or ravine? Bushes grow thicker near water...

Ever tried bundu bashing while exhausted, sleep deprived with a bike on your back? The slopes have less foliage and you can easily see the scree, the 'easy' escape up the left and not get bogged down or too wet.

Maybe a tar road sprint off through the old tunnel and up the last hill? Or some pine forest heroics!

Ok, thanks, that make sense.

You have a 55 year old against a 27 year old?  Who will win the sprint.

Even closer than last year.

I think they're riding together after calling a truce. only thing that makes sense with two leaders more than a day ahead stopping for 6 hours sleep at the last SS.

I'd be a little disappointed if that happens, people have finished together before - but not after joining up at such a late stage. BUT, i'm just here at my desk, they've been in the saddle for 11 days and can do what they want!
