Any body know the duties I will pay if I order components on CRC. (Seatpost, Saddle, Grips)  The prices are great with the sale thats on.

Whats your guys experience with delivery time.

I've ordered lots of components from them in the past and from experience you wont have to pay duties on those three components. You will pay VAT.

Duties will only come in when it's stuff like clothes or complete bikes.

You do not pay duties on components only vat and a handling fee. Delivery time can be a problem with our unreliable postal service, up to 5 weeks even unless you choose the DHL option.

I recently made a purchase from CRC, hubs, 2X rims, chainring.

The VAT and handling fee was +- R850

So I would imagine your fee would be less based on the items you purchased.

My order got delivered to me, paid cash for the VAT and handling fee.

Would that rate be the same on a Groupo?

I found a set of Dura Ace Di2 for R28 800 at Evans (cheapest in SA was R36k and 3 week wait), but was worried about duties on it, so didn't buy.

I don't think there will be duties payable on groupsets, it's still only components and not something that is made/assembled in South Africa, for example shoes, clothes, complete bikes etc.

One thing to remember is that you're only allowed to import 3 times per year, or R20000. After that you will need an Importers code

Yes, groupsets are components. VAT and handling only.

Not correct. I did 4 builds last year, imported at least 150k for them spread over more than 10 shipments, was never asked for an importers code.

Strange, I never did 4 builds, but I did get this reply from DHL when I did my 3rd import this year.

Importers Code
Every importer is allowed to import 3 consignments per calendar year and the total value of these 3 shipments cannot exceed R20000.00.
In the event of the shipments exceeding R20000.00 or importation of commercial quantities , all importers must then apply for a Importers Code number on a DA 185 as per Section 59A.03(1) of the Customs ACT of 1964. An agent may not apply for registration on behalf of an applicant. Please find attached DA185 or the application can be found on the SARS website ( www.sars.gov.za ). Please be advised that if we submit this shipment to customs, it is a possibility that Customs will stop this shipment and issue out Penalties. Kindly take note that DHL will not be held liable should Customs impose any penalties.

I never really worried about it because I have a importers code, and will use it next time. Just a bit more paperwork on my side if I do use the code.
