There is no love lost between myself and the Konica team, but I was there and Michele did deserve to win- period. Don't ctually give a rats ass about stupid allegations as I have had many jelious people trying to stop my guys from winning the backhand way. Please next time, only comment when you have first hand experience, not just from a pic. You have now created unneaded stress for one youngtser fighting many hurdles to do her best at the upcoming world champs... Super ride on Stage 3 Michele!

Austin, well put.

I think who ever started this bull shout apologise to this young lady and end this thread.

what gets me is the "gypsy" who started this all with a rather dodgy opening opinion, stated as fact is ummm gone.

I havent followed much of SA cycling, but I hope Michele whipps the ass off whoever Gypsy is supporting !

*i'll be in a tight sport if the person she supports is Michele, but somehow I doubt it Confused*

It's very sad that some hubbers will take a swipe at a 16 year old girl who is the 2007 SA tt and road race champ. Equally annoying is that others jump on the bandwagon, declaring 'disqualify' etc on the basis of a very unclear photo and someone else's comment - a rumour. Michelle is a seriously talented and tough competitor who deserves the benefit of the doubt - indeed the law presumes innocence until proven guilty, not the other way round. What Michelle achieved in that tour was way beyond my predictions. She deserves encouragement, not execution without trial. Well done girl!

It is sad - cause at the tour - there were quite alot of disputes regards the ladies. Onother girl was pushed or something during the crit. 2 other girls spent lots of time pacing behind cars to get back to a bigger bunch etc.

In fact should the comms have been lots stricker we possible could have been looking at 4 time eliminations and then taking in consideration then possibly 4 disqualifications - then not one of the girls would have finished the tour as there were only 8.

All that needs to happen - we have to find more girls - so that we can have an independant ladies tour - then all this will not happen - however, a seperate event just for 8 girls - not viable.

For me, it was quite clear on day one already that Michelle came to the tour more prepared - she won the TT by 2 minutes.   During stage 2 - the first road stage I was in the first comms car - she was making the pacing in the front on her own almost.  There were 3 other good girls - I know one of them was sick but still started the tour and could have done better.  But ever rider has ups and downs.

No ladies team has been selected after the jnr tour - the road is still open for all 8 those girls - but alot (probably all) will depend on the SA champs - best then to make sure your girls goes well prepared.

Last year's u16 tour had 14 girls (6 juniors, 7 u16's and a 19 year old.) Only 1 rider stayed with the boy's bunch on the 1st stage (she fell at the start of the 2nd stage). I don't think the Junior Tour is the right place for the girls, but I understand that the purpose was to build them up to World's standard, and a tour like this - if it doesn't break you, will make you stronger. Personally I would like to see the girls ride with the u16's, but start separately. (Junior Worlds is only 80km for the girls). To build numbers it could possibly be opened to Vet Ladies as well. The pre-event marketing last year for the girls was almost non-existent from the organisers side, although to their credit they did have a pink jersey. If run alongside the boy's event a lot of the costs will already be borne. At least this way the girls can race without the boys. The only danger is that the standard may not rise, although the true racers will emerge.

Just out of interest sake, who finished second and third behind Michelle in the tour's ladies category?

Winning the TT by two minutes already says a lot, so I doubt a push (if it happened at all, and I doubt that it did) would have changed anything.

Well done MichelleClap

There was nothing wrong with the ladies riding with them. Yes, for junior ladies and younger it can be a bit hard, but if you want to be up there as a pro one day you must ride with them now allready. One reason why europes standerd is so high. Ladies ride with them in smaller classics!!! That is some mean racing as some would know!

The elite ladies must also go ride with the juniors!! I'm not saying vet racing is not hard. But its not hard enough to reach pro standerd in europe. They need much more attacking and pulling in the bunches!

My son was the photographer that took the original photograph. All that happend was that the Mr Price rider came pas Michelle, and patted her on the back and said to her she is doing well, keep it up! It seems that we are too quick to judge before we know all the relevant facts! I took the picture as posted by gypsy in the beginning of this thread, and cropped the relevant area. Here is the cropped image:
