I get Doug Ryders desire to want to keep the racing license from South Africa. I however don't understand why he wouldn't want a foreign title investor. Make Keeping this license South African as a stipulation, but then with the currency surely an investor from Europe, the UK or even the States would be advantageous. Surely that way there will be more funds to keep our international stars and attract more and be sustainable for a longer period of time than a local sponsor having to deal with the terrible exchange rate which could cost them 15 - 20times more than a foreign investors. Never mind the great PR of supporting Qhuebeka and its African charity.

Just my thoughts.

Ja, not really a time to be picky, hey.

how does it cost local investors 15-20 times more?

we can start with around R13m to EBH

Remeber this is for the last two years not just this season

"MTN had spent in the region of R100 million on the team since 2013."

Whereas Both Team Sky and MoviStar have an annual budget of 40M+ Euros. Thats almost 6 times the budget spent in a third of the time. Perfect example of Euro vs Rand power.

where's Johann Rupert when you need him :)

Maybe someone should go ask uncle Dow Steyn to stop building a city and rather rebuild a continent

Or maybe stop staring into the bottle.... :whistling:

Reason why Doug wants an African sponsor is that the team can have a large African contingent competing in races world wide. The minute a European/American sponsor comes on board the demographic build up of the team will change drastically.

Plus he did have connections to/business dealings with Sram so he could carry on in the cycling theme.

While I appreicate all that MTN has done for the team in bringing them up to where they are now, I've heard from a very reliable source close to the team marketing that MTN were aboslutely disgraceful in the manner that they have "negotiated" the termination of the sponsorship with Doug, and gave pretty much zero support to the team during the TdF itself, while all other teams' sponsors go all out during the event.  Spose they don't have the bucks though.

I think Multichoice / SuperSport would be a good sponsor - Africa focus and all.

Once again, who in Europe would care about Multichoice? Their market is Africa, so why pay 50 million to sponsor a chunk of events outside of your target market?

Let's not sound like we have our hats off asking for help for our "African agenda" These guys have performed on the world stage as deserve to be treated as such.

With the lead out train he's going to have I don't see guys like Greipel/Kittel/Bouhani/Viviani getting more wins than Cav in 2016.

They'll have to choose their races wisely though (not all finishes suit him)

Exciting stuff!
