Agree with everything said so far... Venue was well organized BUT the seeding for those of us that got the raw end of the luck draw became a problem right out the start. I managed to get a reseed to DL and by the time we got the dam we were passing streams of riders that had set off earlier and then 25km in we came up on the main bunch of CL... For the first time ever on my bike out on the road I got nervous as our only way past was to go into the oncoming lane... After that we had a small group of guys that had open road and that became 4 over hekpoort....

I agree that the seeding was a stuff up. I was also in DL and most likely rode with you most of the day. I was in the red helmet with the black spez shirt.

Rest of it was really well organised

Excellent race started in DL and rode til about 70km with a group that mostly made one guy in sunflower fund kit do all the work. to the douche race number 1405 throwing your gel wrapper on purpose is disgraceful. Saw the accident on the road after we turned for home. hope the woman is ok. Well marshalles event and enjoyed it.

Aah yes I remember you well, you finished 3rd if I'm not mistaken. You were a different type of strong when riding on the front.

I was in the full blue kit.

The elastic broke for me going over the climb where the last water point was

Yip came in 3rd. Tried to drop the guys on the last climb but just did not have enough in the tank at that stage.

It's was an excellent race for me. Ok results, but I really enjoyed it.

VA went out fast, but nothing too hectic. Managed to hang on with the front bunch up most of Hekpoort then started going backwards. Think our little group came in about 2:43.

The main reasons I enjoyed it so much was that the riders were very well behaved. They policed themselves with regards to the white line crossing, I was pushed over the line once or twice and the guys quickly pointed it out, but politely. No unecessary jockeying for position the whole time...

Then when we formed a chase group after Hekpoort, we rode really hard. I'm still new to the VA group and don't have much experience with pace lines etc. I made a few small mistakes, but again these where pointed out politely, and I appreciate the advice! Maybe it was because I really gave it my all to help chase and the guys felt sorry for me? ;)

At one point after a hard stint on the front, we hit a small bump and I slowly started falling off, a stranger even then gave me a little nudge and small smile, just to get back on the wheel in front of me, think it was rider 260. Dude you rock!

It's was the riders around me that made my race today! Shot guys!!

Edit: saw a few guys come in covered in blood and then on the way home, ambulances about 2km from the finish. Hope the guys are ok!

I had the same experience as you. Rode VB for the first time in quite a while. Everyone was just so polite and friendly. No shouting or any incidents. Managed a 2:42 which I am very pleased with.

So Racetec has an app now..... Just got the sms. (hopefully only once and not 4 times like the weather one. Great race. Managed to get a lift in the Cow bus from the top of Poeierkop. Made that last few kms much easier. Saw the rider down about 6km from the end. Did not look good.

Results are out

Good race even with the headwind, managed to stick with some nice groups and pulled quite a few along in the last 20kms, small group worked well to the end.

Came passed the rider down did not look good, ambulance and lots of medical staff. Hope they are ok.

Always enjoy this race, the hills keep you honest!
