Very different races. Shova has total road closure and Fox hill as you leave Pmb which usually breaks up the groups. Of course you do often get groups reforming later but there are a lot of hills. Some very fast descents such as fields hill.

Sattelite usually has big groups that hang together for the first 70km. Then a very tough climb followed by a few more climbs then a mad dash with large high speed groups for the last 15to 20km. No road closure quite a lot of traffic including trucks.

I like them both. Prefer the Shova. It's a very interesting race with a surprising number of climbs considering how much altitude you lose to Durban. The finish of the Shova is very pleasant and organized. Sattelite finish is not great.

Getting in and out of the venue. The road is used for the race. If you fancy your climbing go do it. NB. No road closures with big bunches for 70km. A-bunch had lots of a-holes last year that completely blocked the traffic by riding on both sides of the middle line. Resulting in many agro drivers around.

The event website for this year, suggests the following:

"An agreement has been reached with the farm bordering the race venue on the north to make extra parking space available. This will be a great option for riders as exiting the venue towards the Dam will be notably quicker without having to wait to cross the cyclists finishing path later in the day."

Hopefully that helps the traffic flow somewhat?

Hahaha sorry. My bad, 2 x Flying Scots ;)

Being friends with the other flying Scot you are thinking about you can understand my confusion the one day reading some posts by this flying Scot and I was like WTF? I was just about to send my buddy a whatsapp and then I realised there are 2.

That makes n+1 who are confused....me too!

I would have thought that the Hub registration process would have filtered out the duplicity? As I'm comparatively new on The Hub, I presume the other Flying Scot is a long-standing member? Perhaps I should rename myself to avoid confusion? I hope the other guy is at least a Scot?? ;-)

He is indeed a Scot! But his profile name is 1 word and yours is 2.

I'm riding down to PMB on the 3 days before the Shova, then riding (not racing) the Shova.

Looking forward to enjoying the views rather than concentrating on the wheels in front.

Pity two good races are on the same weekend.

All the more reason to stay for a few beers afterwards! :)

Last year it was a bit of a mission to get served a beer. Luckily cyclists are known to hang tough...

On a bike  :whistling:

Hahaha...I dont think I will survive 200+km on one day..

Registration is in Durtbin, but the start is in PMB. So is it best to stay in PMB or Durban the night before? or what is the best way to get from Durban to PMB the morning of the race? ummm such things
