Carbon Road Shoes

Hi All.

I know this is another topic that has been discussed in depth, but with new stuff always hitting the market I need to know what is a good carbon road shoe to purchase ?

Lets say a budget of about R3500 or so. I have large wide feet , so need something that will accommodate the width.

Have not been around to try on anything yet, but was advised that the Shimano R321 - http://www.shimano-lifestylegear.com/gl/fw/products/road/018sh_r321.php?pSccontentsPro or R171 http://www.shimano-lifestylegear.com/gl/fw/products/road/019sh_r171.php?pSccontentsPro would be a good option to go, Shimano SA don't have stock of the R260.

I want to buy something good the first time around that will last me a few years. What other options are available locally and who keeps a good range of shoes in the Durban area ?

Thanks.

Reputable brands generally compare favourably.

When it comes to clothing and shoes, best fit is the best buy.

Contact Asg for some older stock Sidi Ergo's. Generally they are a narrow fit but wider fit options are available. I fitted on a pair of SWorks the other day and I struggled just getting my foot in with the BOA's. Have a look at Giro's as well.

I have the same wide foot issue and went through this exact same thing a few month ago.

Try Gaerne as a brand, they seemed to fit my foot very well where I found S-Works/Sidi/Northwave and even the Bontragers a bit narrow. Sidi does do a "Wide" fit, but finding stock is near on impossible.

Those Gaerne Stilo's looks great, but R6K

I can get the Shimano's R171 for R2700...

the R321 is R5200...

To add on to the list of wide shoes.

I took the plunge I purchased a pair of the Suplest S8+ from CWC. I was concerned about the fit but they arrived today and I can gladly say that they are very similar in fit when compared to the Shimano R171-W.

Enough space in the front, and they feel comfortable. Will test them out on the trainer tomorrow.

Just got a pair of Stilo's to go with my Chrono's.... Effing amazing!!

One thing I don't get though, and maybe somebody can help. Gaerne seem to place their cleat mounts at a slight offset, why is this?

will do, but you will have to wait for proper feedback as I'm only back on the road in the next 3-4 weeks if the doc allows, or maybe next week after my x-rays.
