I stay in EL, no matter the amount of training I do that bike course will be crap. I'm not a runner, so the more I push the bike, the more I will suffer on the run.

The best I can do is improve my running, which was where my wheels fell off in DBN which, as you put it, was/is an easy course

Most of us around here are cyclists first, so we can make the mistake of underestimating the bike...    I did that at the full....

Just sayin'....

This is my point - you need to be as bike fit as possible, so that you do not need to "push the bike" during the race, riding within yourself so that you can do a decent bike time and still be "fresh" for the run.

The reason the wheels fall off during the run in any long distance race is usually because people pushed the bike to hard for what their fitness allowed.

The key (and beauty) of triathlon is trying to find the balance for all three sport, to optimise total performance on race day...

the route is a killer no matter what you do and how you look at it. My aim for the bike is a sub 3:20 which in itself will need a lot of work (for me).

fact remains i'm no runner and bunkers hill scares the crap out off me

Was'nt going too as Ive done 5 already. Unfortunatly had to pull out of Durban due to a shoulder injury. As someone stated earlier, EL will now be my vengance and I will be back for my 6th.

Me too, but then its actually just a single hill which you must do twice - most people will walk it which will only add maybe 10 minutes to your run...   Many more hills on the bike...  ;)

I have a score to settle with EL. Entered twice (3x counting 2016) and both times could not give it my all due to injury or illness the week before the event and had to settle for a "just finish within time".

Entered my first Ironman 70.3. Bike and run no problem. The bother is the swim.

Tthought the same. But the wetsuit made me float so much I actually had opportunities to rest!!! You FLOAT!!!

Which wetsuit?

At EL you will always be able to swim with a wetsuit, ironman rules state that only above 24.5 degrees Celsius will it be a wetsuit prohibited race.  Below 15 degrees Celsius (i think) it becomes a wetsuit compulsory race (was almost this year).  In between it is optional

Also +1 on Terry at xterra wetsuits

Also Blusmooth wetsuits
