Jackes Posted January 20, 2017 Posted January 20, 2017 I'd love to have a schedule where I can take a nap after ANY of my runs.
Hacc Posted January 20, 2017 Posted January 20, 2017 I also don't sleep during the day, keeps me up at night. Haven't reached Jedi Status yet . After a long run I take a shower, sit/lie in front of the TV being very lazy and after an hour or so I am dead hungry... I will eat everything in the fridge. Just don't hand me food directly after a race.. Lexx 1
Mudsimus Posted January 21, 2017 Posted January 21, 2017 (edited) So I started running again after the stress reaction in my leg, took 8 weeks off. Sticking to less than 10km at slower than 5m/k with two days of rest after every run. Thats my Comrades then. Will build slowly to Skyrun and 4 peaks. Edited January 21, 2017 by Mudsimus Lexx 1
Jackes Posted January 22, 2017 Posted January 22, 2017 Sticking to less than 10km at slower than 5m/k. Thats my Comrades thenI am by no means the expert, but from what I have seen and been told... If this is your first time towards marathon/ultra and comrades? and that is your slower training speed? then that is propably your problem right there? Mr Winter and shaper 2

If this is your first time towards marathon/ultra and comrades? and that is your slower training speed? then that is propably your problem right there?I have never really done slower speed training. This year I have been doing HR based training which forces you to do slightly faster than comrades pace but slower than marathon pace... Will see how it works

Will see how it worksWhat I meant is the way I have it, you are looking for trouble at racing speeds going towards ultra distances for your first time at the increased mileages and frequencies. But I am no expert and talking from what I have read and be told. Stretch and Andrew Steer 2

Mudsimus Posted January 22, 2017 Posted January 22, 2017 True, most of my runs are much slower than 5m/k. Im just referring to quicker 5km and 4km time trails, until Im 100% I'll just skip those.
Mr Winter Posted January 23, 2017 Posted January 23, 2017 i generally do the same...unless there is a nice derriere in front of me...then i focus on that I try and do the same, my problem is that the nice derriere normally runs a lot faster than me
Mr Winter Posted January 23, 2017 Posted January 23, 2017 I'm struggling a bit with my health... much of my December was wrecked with flu and a tummy bug, and now this week I've got heavy post nasal drip and haven't trained at all since a 21km on Sunday. Mon/Tues I was feeling great, just recovering the legs, but Weds I started to feel a bit under the weather. Have managed to keep it in check and stopped it progressing, but with Johnsons Crane marathon next week I'm really wary of getting properly ill. I haven't upped my training anything significant, so can't see it really being that. Unless I just still haven't recovered properly from December and going hard at the half marathon was a mistake? Nutrition wise I eat pretty healthy I reckon - my average day consists of something like this: Breakfast smoothie: Future life, banana, dates, almonds, seed mix, cranberries, full fat yoghurt and full cream milk Lunch: Tuna/Chicken/Egg mayo or Pilchards with a few Provita and an apple or tomatoes Dinner: Protein(fish/chicken/steak) with two servings of veg. I don't snack much between that, but if I do it's usually almonds, fruit or a bit of full fat yoghurt Can anyone see any holes in this? Am I maybe eating too little? I'm 89kgs and exercise on average around 4/5 times a week. What do you guys supplement with? I take Slowmag every day along with a general immune booster(vit C and B). A little protein added to my smoothie on the mornings I run. Feeling very frustrated, finally got my legs on board and now I'm struggling with my health Any input welcome Hey Andrew I was having major issues last year after every hard session I would wake up the next morning with major sinus and just a fluey feeling, it turned out to be hay fever and I've never had hay fever before. Maybe look at taking a daily antihistamine and see if that makes any difference. Andrew Steer 1

I know it is hay fever myself because when I was in London the smog used to make my face swell up like a balloon unless I took a antihistamine every day

Can I just grab it at Dischem, or must I see my doc and grab a script? Feeling okay and my Sat run my heartrate was very comfy apart from a little bit of a rise tackling Northcliff hill. So it's looking very much like allergies... Johnsons marathon this weekend, so I'd like to kick this worry to the curb
