To the guys wearing Asics...

Tell me a shoe you actually like?  Practically every other week you are chopping and changing and looking for any fault in a shoe even if you have or have not tried it !!.... and most of it is hearsay

Whilst R2800 is a fair whack of rondellas for the latest, you could have easily picked up last years models for R1200-1500 at the recent SW yellow ticket sale.... else poobies is probably the cheapest.

As for Asics I have the Nimbus gel, my last 3 pairs have been and I change them around 850kms irrespective of whether I can get more kms out of them and they are still looking good. (they now get used for gym).  The 18's I have no problem with apart from the basic colour. (was not fond of the blue)

I also have a pair of Tri-noosa gel which I only wear for short training runs and triathlons.

Both models I have not had an issue with and all are making it to my 850km easily and could probably throw a few more kms on them, but is my choice to change...

My next pair next month will be the Nimbus 19 and am very happy with Asics.

Are you guys really still as happy with them and have you tried anything else recently?

I hear a lot of stories that they chopped and changed between models the last while and when you go from a Nimbus 17 to 18, for example, there are quite some differences, so much that the guys don't like the new models?

I almost get the feeling that the Asics = No1 is more a South African craze thing?

We have tried the Nimbus and Cumulus in the past and I was'nt impressed, the milleage was not that great either.   And all of this at R2,800 for the newest pair of Nimbus.....

What am I missing or is it just me.

I run with Asics Nimbus since I started running in 2014. The sizes differ every year... 16 fitted me perfectly, 17 a bit tighter and 18 I thought I bought the wrong size

Asics are ridiculously expensive and I feel niggles from 900km onwards.

I am keen to try another brand. I am leaning towards Brooks, but I haven't made up my mind.

you guys are getting excellent mileage out of your shoes...cos I am lardy I tend to replace every 600... my kayano 22's are on around 550 and getting niggles already....kayano 23 at 2900 means around 6 rand per km... :(

shoes look good as new, but worn.

You get 900km on a pair of shoes, wow.

I run in Asics GT1000 as I pronate slightly.  I have tried others and have always gone back to them.  I get around 1000 km out of a pair.  And I buy them at SMW on sale, just bought two pairs for R1500 each last month so that I can swop them around while training for Oceans Ultra.

Interestingly enough I also developed plantar fascitis after doing a Trail run stage race in Brooks trail shoes...

WTH... I change my Nike Pegasus around 680km.

to be fair - i have not run in the 2 pairs over 1000km this year...and only use older shoes for runs less than 15km

The Asics 16 pair with 706 kms got holes in them and wasn't worn out.

none of my shoes are worn out. If I show you the pair with 1000km on them they have zero wear underneath. My big toe pokes through the top long before anything else though!

Same happened to me with the Nimbus 16, toes were sticking out way before it was worn out.

All my Asics are definitely worn out if you look underneath, and I am not a "shuffler" .

I  left Asics Nimbus a few years back (after using them for about 10 years)  to find a Lighter Training/Comrades shoe.

Last year I did all my Training (2100kms Jan-29 May) in the Adidas Boston Boosts. Went through 3 pairs (just over 600km each @ around R1400-) by end of April and ran Comrades in the 4th Pair with around 150kms on them.  No problems at all.. they about 245gms to the Nimbus 17 @ 310gms

But I am only about 65kgs and pretty light on my feet.

I race up to  Marathon in the Brooks T7 which is an Out and out racer @only 181gms
