Races for me... PnP Half, maybe full if I start actually training now, Dischem Half, Cradle Half, Colgate 32km, Johnsons Crane Marathon, Vaal Marathon and either Om die Dam or Two Oceans.

And the last big test, RAC 60km training run - usually a month before Comrades - perfect last little test, long, slow, hilly, painful

Add your schedule to the list if you don't mind. I don't know the dates else i would've

Jigghead, that sounds extreme! No water for last 12k's on a hot marathon?! That's just crazy... Well done on completing, hope you recover well from that.

My calf is strapped up, look like a rugby player... ehhhrrr... at nowadays' scale an u11 scrumhalf! Will take it easy (and have been given "permission" to run by the bio) on Tunnel Run and then should be okay for the Winelands. Slughtly nervous, but I guess that's normal before a first one...

Ha Ha. How wicked a thing alcohol is. While being consumed everything is AWESOME!! afterwards not so much any more.

I will be resting the running shoes till after the 947. Then the bike will rest to most of the time till the Big C is done. I will probably use the bike to cross train but without the intention of getting "Riding" fit for an event.

Haven't entered the Comrades yet but will try to.

Next challenge for me is the Addo 100 Miler (160km). Offroad trailrun. Basically Comrades x2 in terms of distance, and offroad. Think Comrades a few months later will feel like a breeze in comparison.

Are there any of you guys doing Ironman and Comrades next year? Ironman is on 10 April. It was my goal to do both, but after considering the advice from some experienced Comrades/IM competitors, I have abandoned that idea and am only now focusing on Ironman. I have not done a Comrades yet, but have done Ironman, so I am a little disappointed that I am not going to do my first Comrades, but I feel it is the better to focus on one of these big events in 2016 and then make 2017 my running focus year.

I am not this year but I did do both in the Same year in 2012 and 2013.

Its totally do-able but obviously dependent on the strength of your running.. If you have put in a Proper 3 Months of Ironman training you should already be over 450-500kms of running for the year so far... and have the Cardio strength from the swimming and the leg strength from the biking..

Soon as Ironman was done I took 7-10 Days Off or very easy and then did a Comrades Long run @ RAC, 2 or 3 decent weeks and then started to Taper again going into Comrades with less than 850kms.

I even did Sani2C both years between the 2, the first time only finishing 13 days before Comrades.

For the Record both Years I found Comrades a lot harder than Ironman and I believe I was short of mileage but nothing that was not going to get me through...

For Interests sake

2012 - IM 12:55 Windy Year - Comrades 9h09 (down)

2013 - IM10.36 Comrades 8h47 (Up)

Took 2014 to race only Mountain Bikes and Focussed mainly on Two Oceans and Comrades in 2015.

So, a lot of people doing the Johnson Crane as a qualifier I see...  Any other good fast options between then and the end Feb (deadline for Oceans)...  The only other one I see is Pick n Pay, but I've done the half before and recall it being quite hilly

I'm pulling out of the race. Super bummed but I went for my first run in like 3 months and seems this stress fracture is not healed yet so I am rather going to let it heal properly. I'm super bummed.

Are supporters allowed with bicycles on the route?

technically not...but my mate met me at top of lynfield park and rode with me all the way to the top of little polly's...incredibly motivational at that point in the up run!

you 100% sure its a stress fracture? I had incredible pain in my foot which i though was a stress fracture...but turned out being just a very tight lateral band....even after basically three months rest it was still sore...so I just decided bugger it..and started running again and its actually fine..still tight if do intense workout on my left hip flexor...but it goes away quick enough
