Club run tomorrow 6 am from Old Eds... 2-3 hours. Usually involves hills

i was amazed how quiet jhb is on a sat morning. maybe it was because it was ODD weekend last weekend, but i bumped into maybe 3 runners. In pmb on a sat morning you will easily bump into 15 to 20 runners and about 10 joggers...and way more car traffic. Does jhb only getting going later on the weekends?

My club is doing a 32km long run... which include parts of the Pirates route.  I decided to rather not do it the weekend before Irene. I am going for a nice LSD in the Cradle. (Some rolling hills but mostly flat parts between Lion Park and Makiti)

Hopefully, fewer cyclists in the Cradle after Argus, I guess it will be the Ironman guys and girls and the odd cyclist training for Emperors.

All our club runs start at 6. I must say even on Tuesday morning, on the public holiday I only bumped into 2 runners... where normally it will be at least 10. Maybe it was due to ODD.

How many people usually pitch up for an Old Eds Clubrun?? Only people from Old Eds, or is anybody welcome?

And all of CL, cradle few cyclists, and Saturday don't belong in the same sentence. I am guessing it will be the usual hive of activity!

I did my first 21.1km race today (ever), Tronox/uMhlatuze Running Club race around Empangeni.

Nice hilly route, with approximately 2.5 to 3km of muddy sticky sludge between the sugar cane (rain started on Friday and stopped at 05:25, exactly 5 minutes before race start this morning). The mud was a was a leg killer of note, robbed me of at least 10 minutes as I slid and slithered through the boggy road and muddy water puddles.

In the end I achieved my goal of completing under 2:20min, with a 2:17:17. If not for the muddy road, that would've been a 2:05 - 2:10.

Training areas I need to improve - hills, Richards Bay is way too flat

Muddy bog runs - need to invest in welly-boots and a well traveled farm road in rainy season

PB on 20km

PB on 10 miles (whatever America)

Next 21.1 in 4 weeks and quite pleased with my progress. Will aim for a 2:05 on that run.

On a side note: I started running this year weighing 95.6kg's, this morning I started on a much reduced 87kg's. Times should continue to improve as I ratchet up on the training and weight loss!

Sorry Cobus, only saw this now... was only a handful of us on Sat... was supposed to be over a dozen, but the weather seemed to put a few off. Pretty sure anyones welcome, we're a friednly social bunch, but it's not a constant thing - distance and time are long debated on whatsapp groups in advance.

I was introduced to a new beast of a hill Sat... hidden somewhere in Observatory, basically Sylvia Passes big daddy - hidden away little switch back hell in a culdesac. Might have to go run it again, was a proper challenge.
