Hi Guys, when it comes to online purchasing of clothing that is running specific, which online shop is best. I'm in need of cold weather long tights?

thanks

Try the Mr Price Compression shorts, they fit me better than most brand names and the quality feels better. Oh and you can buy three for R750.

But Fordyce, 61,did not let the brutal assault on him deter him from his early morning training schedule

He said as he was running, he noticed a car slowing down alongside him.

“I thought they wanted directions and walked towards the car. Two men inside the car then pointed guns at me. One got out and began kicking me. They took my takkies, which were old and smelled of old cheese, so they are more than welcome to them,” he joked.

He added that his attackers also took his watch, which was also old.

“They probably thought my Adidas takkies and watch were a lot more valuable,” he said.

Fordyce said he was more embarrased that he did not put up more of a fight.

“I think aside from a bruised ego, I am fine. They did take one of my gloves so I had a bit of a Michael Jackson look going on. They tugged at my shorts as well. I think they probably thought I had a cell phone with me. But I never run with valuables,” he said.

Fordyce said he managed to get home and put on another pair of running shoes and continue his training.

“My coach expected me to do a 10km run and when the robbery happened, I was only about five or six kms into my run. My coach, who is me, would not allow me to say I did a 10km run when I only did about half of that. So I fetched another pair of takkies and carried on. We cannot let the criminals win,” he said.

He added that his attackers did not recognise them and were merely opportunistic criminals looking for a target

Fordyce, is celebrated as South Africa’s greatest ultra marathon athlete, with a record nine Comrades Marathon and three London to Brighton Marathon wins. He has run the Comrades Marathon 30 times and is the first and only South African to achieve this feat.

When i go out for those dark , early morning runs this sort of situation usually crosses my mind. Don't know how many times my shadow has scared the crap out of me.

To be honest, I never even give it a thought when I'm running, because I never have any valuables with me; but on the bike its a different story - always proactive and alert

I also never carry valuables with me but i've wondered how long it will be before they cotton on to what some shoes and watches are worth.

This is the best and worst of SA all in one... glad he's fine. Glad he took it in his stride.

We need to be aware out there, but we also just can't let them take our freedom

absolutely. I must admit it is something I dont really think about, but am aware of when i pass dodgy looking characters. My morning run sees me go past a local taxi pickup zone - but in reality everyone is just going about their business of getting to work.

On of my weekend runs takes me past a shebeen and you often see the relics of the die-hards stumbling home. Only one one occasion in the past 5 years have I seen a bit of a scuffle there..and it was a xenophobic scuffle.

I run with zero valuables (except my watch)

I also don't run with valuables - except for my Asics (R2800...) and my watch which is about R5000.... I don't run alone, well most of the times.

This is definitely not something I pay attention to when running. I also feel differently about it when cycling.

are they gold lined?

my last pair GT2000's cost 1800 - and that was the most I have paid in a long time. I normally pay anything from 1200 to 1500 by buying last years model at the beginning of the year.

I've wondered this same thing for a while... I mean a Garmin Fenix 5 is worth the same as a cellphone. But resale and use to them, it is just fortunately not the same - there is little demand for our running gear at their real value (touch on wood).

I run past a few vagrants pretty much every run I do, I great them all and think little of it - even in the dark, although I do stay clear of the isolated dark parts of the parks at night. I've never really felt unsafe.

That said, would I let my wife run my routes alone in the evening... most certainly not, but also mainly for other reasons.
