Swiss it really becomes a balancing act behind how much you're prepared to put into it. For our body types and the issues we face it's slower and has some extra feedback, but like you say, your heart keeps drawing you on and it feels like you're 'breaking up' with a girl you have always wanted to go out with, the moment you decide you're out. I am fortunate to have surfing as a real passion to subdue the realisation that I wont be doing it, however romantic the notion remains! Good luck bru finding your answers!

You indeed are fortunate to have surfing, I know which one I prefer... I hope to continue my surfing lessons part 2 in December on the south coast... Ja a grey on a tray amongst all the vaalie kiddies learning to surf

No brainier, go for the triathlon.... it will hopefully help help your knee and comrades will still be there in a few years.... just don't wait to long like me...

I agree, the average age at Comrades is 42 or thereabouts. You still have plenty of time to do your Comrades.

This morning at the bio i asked him if he knows where i can go to get someone to check my running style to determine whether or not i need to change my mechanics (Less heel strike etc) to get less injuries and he didn't but suggested i get on a treadmill and jog while recording myself and then try and match it up on the internet with pro's.

Now i have been to SBR sport for the full leg assessment and there Mike did put me on a treadmill for 30sec . I am however looking for a more in depth analysis where someone takes a bit longer or i can make a recording and send it to them once i am more settled down into my running rhythm, does anyone know of such a place?

I doubt that you will get something like that. Don't think there is enough evidence out yet to that will allow you to predict if changes away from healstrike would reduce injury rate.

There is some evidence suggesting it, but as far as I've read there is nothing conclusive yet. I know some resent work has shown there to be responders and non-responders to forefoot running. It doesn't fit everyone, and certainly doesn't reduce injury risk in everyone.

I dunno about that Scott... I'm one of those that believe my body knows how to run after all we were born to run... it's not like swimming or cycling which are not natural activities for the human species.

Yes u can fine tune / fix certain things which are influenced by injuries or things like that but I'm not sure it's possible or a good thing to try adjust what you do naturally

Good luck

Funny enough Brett Sutton believes that long distance athletes should run more on the entire foot or even strike with the heel...

"Studies have shown that elite long-distance triathletes and runners often naturally switch from a mid-foot to heel strike as the distances grow longer. In fact, former world marathon record holder Haile Gebrselassie purposefully switched to heel striking en route to becoming a sub-2:04 marathoner."

I fully agree, you're body is capable of so much more than you think. Don't worry, after 70km of the Comrades everyone hurts.

At 70km I always tell myself... less than half a marathon to go, somehow it doesn't help. Comrades starts at 70km, that is when you start running with your head and not your legs.

I guess another club for the BikeHub Runners that occasionally cycles... :whistling:

I have gone from a cyclist that runs occasionally to a runner that cycles occasionally. I have huge respect for triathletes that can fit all three disciplines in

Joined the group :)

Maybe those on the group should identify who they are so we know who is who in the zoo

ScottC-M is Scott Craig-Mackie

i will leave the rest to identify themselves as not to impose on anyone's privacy who doesn't want to be identified.
