The last section to be built is the lowest level which takes the trail onto the circle loop (fire road) in the valley.Meanwhile Bennet is making positive progress with the Red Line. Difficult to say when this trail will reach the same trail head that the black is at but we hope ten more working days. These two trail heads are very close to the Blue Line trail head, fondly known as Neverending Story.Next week a team will work on Neverending Story, which also needs some love and attention. We are trying to find a way around the portage section at the very top, meaning a fun ride from top to bottom!Lastly the trails are not yet open. Please don't ride them. Signage will be erected as soon as they are open. pierre.s Posted October 5, 2015 Share I have no problem with the 100% increase in the entrance fee. Until recently R25 was dirt cheap considering what you get. Never mind the constructed trails, it's JONKERSHOEK ! One of the most beautiful and safest spots in the country for hiking and cycling. And remember that, even if you stay off the constructed single tracks, you could still probably do about 50 to 60 km of jeep track access roads with minimal track overlap if you know the roads and plan your route carefully. I have been riding these exact same roads for 30+ years now, starting with my old dikwiel backpedal !It is, however , unfortunate for someone like my wife, who takes a leisurely cycle around the traditional circle route up to Witbrug and back (she can't do much more than that...) and then relaxes at our secret spot by a stream with her feet in the water while waiting for me. It took me forever for me to do the road gap at gspot and I STILL feather the brakes while approaching it. I gotta say. I'm proper excited about this though. Whenever I see an Ace of Spades sign on a new trail. I know I'm gonna love it. Its not just riding new trails either.Its the challenges in overcoming new features. Its what makes me go back. Barberton XCM MTB Posted October 7, 2015 Share Fellow trails riders, runners and other users, Herein a response from Lawrence (below), The CEO of MTO, providing more detail on the company MTO and the locations of their plantations, involvement in Jonkershoek etc. A quick update on Jonkershoek. Bennet Nel is busy building the 'red line' from 'The Neverending Story' trail head. We hope that Hylton Turvey, the very reputable Karkloof trail builder will arrive in mid September to work alongside Bennet. Next they'll tackle the 'black line' from the same trail head. Thanks for your support! Lawrence's Message: There have been some questions about who is who and it seems there is a bit of confusion about MTO and Cape Pine! Bottom line is this, they are one in the same, MTO has always been the registered entity and it traded as Cape Pine in the Cape. But the group has expand significantly and has operations all over South Africa so it was necessary to reposition MTO as the recognised corporate ID. Cape Pine remains an important brand within the group and represents the lumber we produce in the Cape (our plantations run from Jonkershoek to Longmore just outside Jeffery's Bay (MTO | Cape)). The other plantations (MTO | Lowveld) are in the Lowveld (Whiteriver, Tzaneen, Barberton, Piet Retief etc). The opportunities are endless!! It’s probably also necessary to clear up the confusion about who is responsible for the eco-tourism or trail management at Tokai and Cecilia. It’s not us, while we manage the forests (which comes to and end in 2016), SanParks are responsible for the eco-tourism which includes the trails and the management / control thereof. We obviously work closely with SanParks regarding our harvesting programme and our scheduled handover of areas to them. It is really exciting to be unlocking the potential of Jonkershoek as a world class trail destination, thank you to all that have driven this initiative, Bennet’s building some amazing trails and I look forward to seeing you guys flying by! A huge thanks to Bobby and Specialized for the massive efforts and contributions, you’ve kick started an exciting project.
